    $61.05 - $74.21 Hourly

    Are you passionate about environmental protection and public service? We are seeking a skilled and dedicated journey-level Environmental Compliance Inspector III to join our team at Union Sanitary District where we work every day to protect water quality and ensure compliance with environmental regulations.

    In this role, you’ll conduct field inspections, issue permits, investigate pollution sources, and enforce environmental standards at commercial and industrial facilities. You’ll serve as a knowledgeable and professional representative of the District - helping reduce pollution at the source and safeguard our wastewater system.

    Examples of Duties

    Key Responsibilities:
    • Inspect industrial and commercial facilities for compliance with pretreatment, stormwater, and pollution prevention regulations
    • Issue wastewater discharge permits and review compliance documentation
    • Collect samples and evaluate discharge data
    • Investigate and respond to illegal discharges or violations
    • Prepare detailed reports and participate in enforcement actions
    • Represent the District in meetings with businesses, regulators, and the public

    Qualifications

    Ideal Candidate Will Have:
    • At least two years of experience in environmental compliance, preferably in wastewater or industrial pretreatment
    • A two-year degree or equivalent coursework in environmental science, chemistry, biology, or related field
    • Strong knowledge of relevant federal, state, and local environmental regulations
    • Experience collecting and analyzing water or wastewater samples
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

    Additional Requirements:
    • Valid California Class C driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record and insurable by the District
    • CWEA Grade II Industrial Waste Inspector Certificate (or ability to obtain within 24 months)

    Candidates for the Environmental Compliance Inspector III position who meet minimum qualifications will be invited to an Online Written Exam scheduled for Thursday - Friday, 5/8/2025 - 5/9/2025.

    Applications of the highest scoring candidates will be reviewed by a panel of Subject Matter Experts. Top candidates will be invited to a Virtual Qualifications Appraisal Interview scheduled for Tuesday, 5/20/2025.

    Finalist Interviews are scheduled for the week of 5/26/2025 or 6/2/2025, in person at the District.

    Before being appointed to the position, the candidate must pass a criminal background check including reference checks, Live Scan, DMV clearance, and pre-employment physical.
