As an application database administrator, you will be building and maintaining objects (such as tables, sequences, procedures, triggers, functions, etc.) in database systems and ensuring data security. Your role will also entail troubleshooting issues in our applications as related to the database and providing quick resolutions. The ideal candidate will be able to work individually as well as collaborate with developers, system admins, and end-users to maintain databases.
This position is with the Office of Administration, Information Technology Services Division (OA-ITSD), supporting the Department of Labor and Industrial Relations (DOLIR).

- Identify and implement database requirements for new or existing applications by working collaboratively with other teams.
- Support users and developers by resolving data-related technical issues and troubleshooting queries by guiding them with best practices.
- Provide technical direction and guidance in designing, developing, and tuning of SQL for extracting data, inserting data, altering data, creating and or altering data structures, and improving performance.
- Perform database refreshes when necessary.
- Review and ensure database-related items conform to standards.
- Analyze data in the database to ensure data integrity.
- Execute regular database maintenance tasks, including database defragmentation and database replication.
- Create and update relevant documentation, such as data dictionaries, database objects, and user manuals.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (experience may be substituted).
- 3-5 years of experience in database administration or in a similar role.
- Experience in database backup, disaster recovery planning, performance optimization, and data security.
- Knowledge of database management systems such as MySQL, SQL Server, and DB2.
- Knowledge of Postgres and non-relational database management systems is a plus.
- Successful background check results are required for employment in this position. This may include background checks involving a candidate’s name and/or fingerprints and other screenings as needed for the specific position.
