OverviewThe Larimer County Department of Natural Resources is seeking a skilled, talented, and experienced individual to join our team as a Senior Accountant!
The Senior Accountant requires a broad and advanced knowledge of accounting principles and procedures. This is a key role that will have a wide variety of duties, including being responsible for the daily accounting operations, and the supervision of technical and administrative staff.
Our mission is to establish, protect, and manage significant regional parks and open lands by providing quality outdoor recreational opportunities and stewardship of natural resource values. We are committed to fostering a sense of community and appreciation for the natural and agricultural heritage of Larimer County for present and future generations.
The typical schedule for this position is Monday-Friday, 8am-4:30pm.

ResponsibilitiesWhat you'll be doing:
- Supervising professional, technical, and administrative staff by assigning and reviewing work, providing guidance, and conducting performance evaluations.
- Reconciling financial records, including cash receipts, accounts receivable, monthly bank statements, and balance sheet activity; prepare adjusting journal entries as needed.
- Entering financial data into accounting systems and generate reports from that data.
- Tracking and reporting on projects and programs by preparing financial reports, maintaining and reconciling cost reports, assisting project/program managers with budget information, and responding to related inquiries.
- Audit and processing payments for various contracts and miscellaneous expenses.

What we're looking for:
- Proficiency in routine software and business applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, presentation tools, and databases.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with County staff, external agencies, organizations, and community members.
- Experience reconciling and auditing financial records.
- Knowledge of financial auditing principles and practices.
- Familiarity with automated financial management systems.
- Understanding of governmental accounting principles and practices.
- Ability to prepare complex financial statements, reports, and analyses.

- Bachelor's degree with major coursework in accounting required.
- Master's degree in a related field preferred.
- Relevant certifications preferred.
- Five (5) years of relevant experience required.
