What type of work will you be doing?
Senior Food Services Assistants work in the department of Parks and Recreation and are assigned to our Senior Nutrition Services programs. You will perform a variety of food preparation and kitchen work such as serving meals, cleaning tables, and washing dishes. Working with the senior population is not your typical job, but it can be a very rewarding experience when you know your job directly impacts the community in a positive way.

Food Safety and Health Department Requirements
Our nutrition programs follow all food safety and health department codes and regulations, so you will be required to present a Food Handler Safety Training card issued by the Southern Nevada Health District at the time of hire, and you'll also need to successfully complete the ServSafe Food Handler Program within 3 months of hire.
What kind of shifts/hours can you expect to work? We have a range of program hours and do our best to provide scheduling flexibility dependent on your availability and where we need you to work.
- Senior Nutrition programs operate from 4:30am to 3:00pm, Monday through Friday, with occasional work being available on the weekends for catering orders.
- Annual average of 19 hours per-week (maximum per year 988 hours)
Where will you work? You will work at the Downtown Senior Center or the Heritage Park Senior Facility. We do not provide these services at any other recreation center or facility.

This is a safety-sensitive position, which means that you are subject to drug testing if we offer you a position, as detailed under NRS 613(1)(d). Minimum Qualifications- Must be at least 17 years of age at the time of application, hire or promotion.
- Six (6) months of experience working in a food service or commercial kitchen, preferably for a municipal or public agency
- Note: An equivalent combination of related training and experience may be considered.
- Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a Food Handler Safety Training card issued by the Southern Nevada Health District at the time of hire.
- Possession of, or the ability to obtain, an American Red Cross, or equivalent, standard First Aid and CPR certifications within the first three (3) months of employment.
- Completion of ServSafe Food Handler Program within the first three (3) months of employment.
- Desirable: High School diploma or equivalent.
- Desirable: Possess and maintain a valid Nevada, or "border state" driver's license, as defined by NRS 483.
