POSITION SUMMARYThis is part-time (typically 32 hours/week) security and customer service work of routine difficulty in patrolling and safeguarding multiple parking garages and providing customer service and information to the public.
Starting pay is $17.29 per hour. An employee in this class is responsible for patrolling buildings and grounds to guard and prevent fire, theft, vandalism, and illegal entry. Possible work shifts including assigned weekends and holidays are:
From 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM (First Shift)From 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM (Second Shift)From 10:00 pm to 6:30 AM (Third Shift)All work shifts are subject to change based on any changing needs for this part-time position.

This is a part-time "at-will" position and is not subject to Civil Service Rules or any collective bargaining agreement.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONSEssential functions are the basic job duties that an employee must be able to perform, with or without reasonable accommodation. - Patrols an assigned area in and around City garages; secures doors and windows; reports fire hazards and other security issues
- Performs surveillance of City property by observing television monitors and responding to incidents observed
- Reports disturbances or suspicious circumstances which require police presence
- Operate communication systems, such as assigned radios and other security related equipment
- Writes incident reports as necessary on unusual security issues
- Provides customer service and information to the public
- Removes debris/cleans up any trash or materials which may create a safety hazard
- Performs related work as required
JOB REQUIREMENTS, PREFERENCES & WORK ENVIRONMENT MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS: High school diploma or G.E.D.Up to one (1) year of related experience including some security and customer service work.Must be able to work at least 32 hours per week from 2:00 pm to 10:30 pm (Second Shift) and/or from 10:00 pm to 6:30 AM (Third Shift) for the currently available vacancies for this position.All work shifts are subject to change based on any changing needs for this part-time position. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Prior security guard and/or customer service experience, preferably for a government entity.
2. Proficient in Microsoft Outlook.
3. The ability to communicate in various languages is a plus.
As public servants, employees may be required to work immediately before, during, and/or after an emergency. All employees must be available and able to work assigned shifts as determined by their Department Heads.
PHYSICAL STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Employees will walk or stand for extended periods of time. The position involves medium physical demands, such as exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects. Ability to lift, carry, climb, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, walk, push, pull, grasp, stand and access heights or areas where limited space is available. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
