Education and Experience : A Bachelor's degree or higher in business or public administration, marketing, public relations, journalism, mass communication or related field, and two (2) years of professional marketing, public relations, special event planning, promotion, mass communications, development, fundraising, promotion of public programs and services, or retail sales and management experience.
Licenses and Certificates : Valid Texas Class "C" Driver's License or equivalent from another state.
General Purpose
Under general supervision, design, implement, coordinate, and manage marketing initiatives, including but not limited to public relations and event planning for the City's water parks.
Typical Duties
Plan, develop, coordinate and oversee facility rental and special event programming. Involves: Responsible for leading attainment of revenue goals through sales of group packages, regular admission fares, private events, consignment tickets, and sponsorship opportunities and other revenue sources. Organize, schedule, develop and implement all aspects of promotional and private pre-event and event day coordination. Identify methods to maximize visitor numbers and revenue at each site. Evaluate marketing and sales programs for effectiveness using agreed benchmarks and key performance indicators (KPIs). Regularly develop new promotional events and recommend program changes as appropriate in order to ensure consistent delivery of exceptional customer service and visitor experiences.
Develop, coordinate and implement marketing initiatives. Involves: Design promotional materials to disseminate programs and events to the community and obtain audiences. Work with relevant departments and suppliers in the creation, placement and tracking of advertising campaigns to include newspaper, print, radio, television, Internet, direct mail, social media and other sources of marketing. Conduct research through focus groups, surveys and other means to assess effectiveness and efficiency of marketing programs and events. Conduct community outreach. Attend events and programs to evaluate result. Monitor marketing and events budgets. Prepare, maintain and present reports. Manage event promotional calendars, all aspects of distribution of digital and print marketing and managing budgets, as assigned.
Assist management in the development of strategic relationships and new initiatives for the City's water parks. Involves: Develop and maintain public/private partnerships and sponsorships. Work closely with relevant departments to develop methods to increase attendance and participation in venue events and programs, services and promotions. Work collaboratively with relevant departmental staffs before, during and after the planning and implementation of promotional and private events. Interface with individuals, groups, organizations and companies to create, build and maintain relationships with partners to discuss rental policies and procedures. Coordinate and maintain relationships with customers, partners and sponsors to secure rentals and event bookings and sponsorships.
Supervise assigned staff to include event volunteers and technical contractors. Involves: Coordinate the event planning process, contract negotiation, vendor selection and setup. Arrange for staff, equipment or services such as catering, security or entertainment necessary to execute events and programs. Train and direct staff for events and programs. Set up or arrange for set up of events, depending on the size and scope of event. Oversee purchase all necessary supplies for events and programs. Monitor events and programs in progress and resolve problems that arise. Schedule, assign, instruct, guide and check work. Appraise employee performance. Provide for training and development. Enforce personnel rules and regulations and work behavior standards firmly and impartially. Counsel, motivate and maintain harmony. Interview applicants. Recommend hiring, termination, transfers, discipline, merit pay or other employee status changes.
