    The Position

    Contributions Examiners are responsible for the accurate registration of liable employers for unemployment insurance, reporting and collection of federally and State mandated unemployment taxes and State mandated employment taxes, and determination of liability of employers' tax liability dates, tax rates, and eligible years of experience rates.

    Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation. OR Incumbents perform basic tasks or elements of the job not requiring the additional knowledge, skills and abilities to perform at the next level in the series.

    This position is a Contributions Examiner 1, underfill for Contributions Examiner 2. The incumbent will progress to the next level upon meeting the minimum qualifications and the approval of the appointing authority. The incumbent may work in the Rates Unit or the Work Distribution Center within the Contributions Section of the Employment Security Division. This position in the Rates Unit plays a critical role in the daily Rate Review determinations. This examiner position reviews employer accounts to determine what type of business mergers or changes in ownership have occurred and whether the rate transfer is subject to voluntary or mandatory transfer provisions; makes the determination if a predecessor/successor relationship exists in accordance with NRS/NAC; inputs transfers, determining the correct employer rate is transferred between predecessor/successor accounts, issues experience rate determinations and proper employer correspondence; and is responsible for reviewing accounts from the annual rate run for program errors and assure accuracy of the Annual Statement of Employer Tax Rates. The position in the Work Distribution Center (WDC) processes payments into the Unemployment Compensation Fund through receiving monies via electronic fund transfers (EFT) processed through the Automated Clearing House (ACH) and through the National Automated Clearing House Association (NACHA); administers the setup of all ACH Debit and ACH Credit agreements by entering the information from the authorization into the system and assisting employers/agents in completing the authorizations and filing ACH or NACHA payments; researches each payment by Federal Unemployment Tax Act (FUTA), DBA and/or Code Write if there is an error in the raw data file. Additionally, this Contributions Examiner position reconciles each daily bank statement to the remote deposit, ACH Credit/Debit Report and Daily Reports; researches non-sufficient funds to determine errors and initiates contact with the employer, corrects batches, and answers all incoming calls to assist employers/agents with all online payment inquires or problems. The position plays a critical role in administering online payments for employers and agents; and ensuring such payments are correctly deposited in the Unemployment Compensation Fund and accurately posted to each employer's account.

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of bookkeeping or collections experience involving the interpretation and application of rules, regulations and laws; OR two years of experience which included contact with the public to explain procedures and elicit facts, make determinations and verify financial information, compose reports and correspondence, make basic mathematical calculations, and interpret written materials; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Requirements A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level. From majestic mountains to desert valleys, nature has endowed Nevada with diverse and unique ecosystems.
