    Overview:

    Under the general supervision of the Director of the TRIO Student Support Services Program the Coordinator/Advisor will assist with the day to day operation of the program by maintaining direct contact with program participants; assisting the Program Director with developing, planning and implementing program activities, services and workshops; assisting the director with the gathering of program data, coordination and supervision of the peer mentors; providing assessment and referrals for program students, assisting with graduate school advisement; maintaining program participants’ records including monitoring and documenting student contacts; serve as program liaison to school based EOP Satellite/Student Service Centers , academic departments, and student services units. Assist the director with accomplishing TRIO Student Services Program goals, and objectives as outlined in the grant application, abide by U.S Department of Education Administrative Regulations (EDGAR); serve on program and university committees and task forces as assigned; work occasional evening and weekend hours as needed; other duties as assigned by the program director.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    Assist with the provision of services to TRIO Student Support Services Program participants and maintaining direct contact with program participants
    • Under general supervision of the Director provide comprehensive academic advisement from time of admission through graduation in identifying, pursuing and realizing appropriate educational and career goals.
    • Provide follow-up advisement and guidance in individual and group settings which may include personal advising, course scheduling, career guidance, academic skills assessment and recommendation, identification of barriers to learning and resolution strategies and campus related issues.
    • In consultation with the Director maintain direct contact with program participants to resolve or attempt to resolve complex issues of academic probation, academic dismissal, academic withdraw and academic re-entry or re-admission.
    • Make several contacts each semester with program participants through telephone calls, letters, individual and or group meetings, emails and/or planned activities.
    • Ensure proper service delivery to program participants through liaison work with campus academic and student services units.
    • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of curriculum in assigned advising population. Maintain current on student issues regarding underrepresentation by income, first-generation college and/or disability. Maintain up-to-date knowledge on financial aid requirements.


    Assist with maintaining current and accurate records on students served, referrals made and services provided.
    • Maintain current and accurate records on students served, referrals made, issues confronted, and services provided. Document student contacts and personal needs assessments and outcomes.
    • Update and maintain TRIO Student Support Services Program database (Blumen) for long term tracking.
    • Create methods for updating and maintaining data collection including assessment and statistical analysis of program services such as peer tutoring/mentoring and alumni tracking.
    • Assist with the planning, promoting and facilitating of TRIO Student Support Services Program graduate school information workshops and graduate school campus visits.
    • Assist with the planning, promoting and facilitating of TRIO Student Support Services Program related workshops and seminars.
    • Assist with the coordination of staff and supervision of peer advisor mentors. Plan, promote and facilitate peer advisor mentor activities.


    Assist Program Director with the coordination of the TRIO Student Support Services Program.
    • Identify, recruit, interview and select eligible participants for the TRIO Student Support Services Program.
    • Work with Program Director to ensure compliance with U.S. Department of Education regulations, policies, procedures and guidelines.
    • Assist in preparation of grant funding proposals and Annual Performance Report (APR).
    • Assist with coordination of daily ongoing activities to comply with program objectives.
    • Write program activity reports for Director.
    • Consult with and make recommendations to Director regarding programming.
    • In consultation with Program Director plan, coordinate, and implement a variety of TRIO SSS events, including but not limited to program meetings, seminars, workshops, orientations, field trips, graduations, holidays, award ceremonies, program trainings, student-centered, and student-parent-centered activities.
    • Provides guidance and direction to students, volunteers, vendors, guests, and/or other event personnel to ensure compliance with policies and procedures
    • Troubleshoots and solves challenges that arise during events independently, and with the support of other department members. Coordinates tasks including, but not limited to food and beverage service, set-up, breakdown, safety training, check-in, meet and greet, and ensuring safety measures are implemented.


    Participate in professional development activities sponsored by the program, university, professional organizations to enhance work related professional growth.
    • Participate in program-sponsored professional development activities and related university training programs to enhance work-related professional growth.
    • This position is a designated University P-card holder and will ensure the proper use of the University P-card following University and TUC guidelines, and completing the necessary paperwork associated with having a P-card.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.


    Qualifications

    Working knowledge of the practices; procedures and activities of the TRIO Student Support Services program; general knowledge of the methods and problems of organizational and program management. General knowledge of research and interview techniques; and of the principals of individual and group behavior. Ability to interpret and apply program rules and regulations; use initiative and resourcefulness in planning work assignment and in implementing long-range program improvements; obtain factual and interpretative information through interviews; reason in groups on routine matters where required recognize multicultural, multi sexed and multi aged value systems and work accordingly; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, CSU administrators, student organization, prove and public agencies and others in committee work, and student advising and community contracts; and rapidly acquire a general knowledge of the overall operation, functions and program of the campus to which assigned. Demonstrated ability to make decisions and carry through actions having implications with regard to other program or service area Services Office. Possession of these knowledge and abilities typical.

    Experience: Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field; experience working with educational equity type programs and first-generation students highly preferred. A master’s degree in a related field may be substituted for one year of experience.

    Education: Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral science, education, psychology, public administrative, sociology or a job-related field. Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year for year basis.

    Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

    This position is employed through The University Corporation (TUC).

    The anticipated hiring range: $21.00 - $26.00 per hour

    Time Base: Full-Time
