This is a field veterinary position and will work in the designated territory rather than report to an office on a daily basis.

The Animal Health Division, Animal Care Facilities Act Program is responsible for licensing and inspecting dog and cat breeding facilities, boarding facilities, animal shelters, and pet shops. Missouri has strict requirements for these facilities, with components that directly affect the health and welfare of animals, contribute toward adequate health and husbandry, and which protect the public interest along with their pets.
Our program is looking for a Program Veterinarian to oversee the animal health and welfare requirements of the ACFA regulations.
Salary: $83,000.16-$90,000.00 annually plus full state benefit package (see benefits section below) Additional benefits include payment of veterinary license fee, payment of AVMA and MVMA dues, and continuing education while at work.

• Conduct official inspections of licensed facilities to ensure compliance with the Animal Care Facilities Act, the Canine Cruelty Prevention Act, and those regulations promulgated under the Acts. Identify violations and recommend corrective action required to meet and maintain compliance.
• Conduct investigations of consumer complaints against licensed and/or unlicensed facilities by gathering evidence through inspections, interviews, and collection of evidence in an unbiased manner.
• Prepare reports involving official inspections and findings; complaint investigations and findings; and epidemiology investigations to note source, surveillance, detection, and control of disease.
• Act as point of contact for reportable diseases in dogs and/or cats. Assist in controlling reportable diseases by contacting owners of infected or suspect kennels and catteries relating to disease control and eradication; and preparing individualized plans for infected animals through identification, testing, and quarantine initiation and release.
• Conduct meetings with private veterinarians, attending veterinarians, shelter veterinarians, stakeholder groups, breeders, and the public to explain and promote state and federal animal health statutes, regulations, and policies.
• Assist Animal Health Division personnel in performing health inspections at the Missouri State Fair and other exhibition events.
• Be trained as a Foreign Animal Disease Diagnostician and conduct Foreign Animal Disease Investigations as necessary.
• Attend emergency management training and meetings in preparation for animal health emergencies.
• Daily travel, with the requirement to manage a caseload of varied priorities and activities.
• Other duties as assigned.
*Daily travel required, but a state vehicle and gas card are provided. Overnight travel is rare.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Graduation from an accredited College of Veterinary Medicine AND
• Must have, or have the ability to obtain, a license to practice veterinary medicine in the State of Missouri.
• Must have, or have the ability to obtain, federal accreditation to perform animal regulatory work within the time frames established by the Missouri Department of Agriculture.
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a veterinarian involving the care and treatment of small animals.
• Experience with leading people.
• Must possess a valid MO Driver’s License.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience as a veterinarian involving the care and treatment of large animals.
• Experience in recording and conveying your work into writing.
• Experience with Microsoft Office applications.
