    The Position

Contra Costa Health is currently looking to fill 4 part-time Clinical Psychologist Positions in a variety of county programs which include Detention Health, the Conservatorship/Guardianship Program, and/or Adult Outpatient Behavioral Health County Clinics. The positions serve an adult population and may involve supervision of adult evidence-based practices and/or neuropsychological assessment, depending on assignment and expertise.

Working as a psychologist in the Contra Costa Behavioral Health system offers the rare chance to do deeply meaningful clinical work while actively shaping a large and complex public system at a moment of unprecedented transformation. You’re not just treating symptoms-you’re serving richly diverse communities across the county, addressing real gaps in access, equity, and cultural responsiveness. You work alongside multidisciplinary teams who are genuinely committed to recovery-oriented care, early intervention, and integrated service delivery.

For someone who values high-quality training, supervision, and the integrity of good clinical practice, this system gives you room to lead in ways that matter: developing programs, mentoring new providers, strengthening clinical pathways, elevating evidence-based and culturally grounded interventions, and building the operational and training infrastructure that allows teams to function well. Contra Costa is the kind of environment where your clinical expertise, systems thinking, and collaborative leadership aren’t just welcomed-they are essential to the county’s mission and future direction.

Here, your work has layers of impact: you support individual clients, you elevate the skills and confidence of the workforce, and you contribute to shaping a more equitable, effective, and resilient behavioral health system. It’s challenging work, but if you want to make a difference at scale, this is exactly the kind of system where you can.

    • Is optimistic
    • Is humble

What you will typically be responsible for:
    • Provide evidence-based psychological assessment (neuropsychological assessment experience preferred), diagnosis, and treatment to adults.
    • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and carry out coordinated, client-centered treatment plans.
    • Conduct suicide and violence risk assessments and support clinical decision-making related to safety planning, crisis response, and level of care.
    • Deliver clinical supervision and consultation to trainees and unlicensed clinicians in accordance with California licensure and training requirements.
    • Ensure high-quality clinical documentation and compliance with Medi-Cal, county, and program standards.
    • Contribute to program improvement, implementation of evidence-based practices, and system-level behavioral health initiatives.
    • Participate in multidisciplinary case consultation.
    • Provide care using a culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and equity-focused approach.
A few reasons why you might love this job:
    • Do work that truly matters.
    • Practice psychology with depth and integrity.
    • Be part of a strong multidisciplinary team.
    • Use your expertise beyond the therapy room.

A few challenges you might face in this job:
    • High clinical complexity.
    • Balancing clinical care with system requirements.
    • Navigating limited resources.
    • Change and transformation.
    • Complex coordination across systems.
