Position OverviewThe City of Henderson announces an examination to create a consideration for hire list and to fill one (1) vacancy for the classification of Student Assistant (Part-Time) in the Department of Community Development and Services. The consideration for hire list may be utilized to fill vacancies for this classification for up to one (1) year.
Under immediate supervision, performs work of routine difficulty assisting with the routine function of the department to which assigned.
Ideal Candidate:
The ideal candidate is a student pursuing a degree in Urban Planning, Engineering, or Environmental Science with basic knowledge of Microsoft Office suite. We are looking for a team player interested in collaborating on sustainability initiatives across a variety of areas including mobility and transportation, water conservation, sustainable development, renewable energy, and creating a resilient and healthy community.
Specific duties will include, but are not limited to:Assist Sustainability & Climate Manager with the development of several plans, programs, and initiatives, including the development and implementation of the All-In Henderson Sustainability & Climate Action Plan. Tasks may include assisting with the development of plan content, research, analysis of data, and collaboration with staff across several departments.
Position Details:- This is a part-time, at-will position
- This position may require weekend availability for special event coverage
- This position requires enrollment in the City's Alternate Retirement Systems (ARS)
- This position is not eligible for any health insurance, or retirement benefits under the Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS) of Nevada, or pay increases
- Work schedule will vary and may not to exceed 19 hours a week

Minimum Qualifications- Graduation from high school, or the equivalent
- Must be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university, vocational or technical school in an academic area related to the work performed by the department to which assigned.
- May be required to pass a nationwide fingerprint-based record check, and a wants/warrants check.
- May be required to complete Security Awareness and National Crime Information Center (NCIC)/Nevada Criminal Justice Information System (NCJIS) certification within six months of hire/transfer and be recertified every two years. Must maintain certifications in NCIC/NCJIS as a condition of continued employment
