Position Summary:Responsible for overseeing privacy-related compliance activities, including policy development, incident investigation, workforce training, and risk mitigation strategies. Ensures the organization’s adherence to federal and state privacy laws, including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), the 21st Century Cures Act, and applicable state privacy regulations.
Job RequirementEducation/Experience:Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business, Public Administration or related field and two (2) years of professional experience in auditing or compliance management, including experience with compliance with federal regulations or current healthcare privacy laws.
Licensing/Certification Requirements:Certified in Healthcare Privacy Compliance (CHC) or Certified in Healthcare Privacy Compliance (CHPC) required, or must be obtained within 18 months of hire or transfer into the department.
Additional and/or Preferred Position Requirements PREFERENCE WILL BE GIVEN TO APPLICANTS WHO DOCUMENT THE FOLLOWING EXPERIENCE: - Previous healthcare privacy, healthcare information security, or legal experience in any of the following:
- Certified in Healthcare Privacy Compliance (CHPC)
- Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/U)
- Certified Professional in Healthcare Information and Management Systems (CPHIMS)
- Certified in Healthcare Privacy and Security (CHPS)
- Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
- Security+ certification
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Physical RequirementsKnowledge of:Federal and State regulations and standards related to Privacy, such as HIPAA, JCAHO, CoP, 21st Century Cures Act, and NRS; access, security, use and disclosure of health information policies and practices in each of the designated departments; teaching methods for diverse audiences; privacy investigations and managing breach response; hospital operations, electronic health records, and data protection practices; principles of project management; audit and analysis techniques; resources available for researching applicable regulations and best practices; basic investigative principles and practices; and basic interrogation/interviewing techniques; department and hospital safety practice and procedures ; patient rights; age specific patient care practices; infection control policies and practices; handling, storage, use and disposal of hazardous materials; department and hospital emergency response policies and procedures.
Skill in:Policy and procedure development; auditing, monitoring, and analysis; computer applications such as spreadsheets, word processing, databases, and the internet; skill in resolving problems collaboratively, and to negotiate or facilitate discussions with groups of diverse opinions; conducting sensitive investigations independently and efficiently and managing breach response; applying and explaining federal, state, and local laws related to healthcare privacy; making sound independent judgments within legal and procedural guidelines; interpreting complex privacy regulations and applying them in a healthcare setting; maintaining accurate records and files; preparing clear and concise written reports, correspondence, and other materials; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of the work; dealing successfully with a variety of individuals from various socioeconomic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds, as well as technical and non-technical senior management and line staff; working independently, managing multiple priorities, and meeting deadlines; using tact, discretion and prudence in dealing with those contacted in the course of the work; strong partnership development and relationship management expertise which demonstrates experience and confidence working with senior management on high visibility projects; capable of developing and delivering HIPAA based project and educational presentations to audiences at all levels in the organization; using computers and related software applications; communicating with a wide variety of people from diverse socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with all personnel contacted in the course of duties; efficient, effective and safe use of equipment.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:Mobility to work in a typical office setting and use standard office equipment, stamina to remain seated and maintain concentration for extended periods of time; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate effectively in-person and over the telephone.
