Classification Salary Range: $3,690 - $6,062 per month

The anticipated hiring range for this position is $4,000 - $4,200 per month.

The final salary is dependent upon qualifications and experience.

About the Department/Position:

Custodial Services is committed to maintaining, cleaning, and protecting the interior portions of the university's facilities. We focus on providing a safe, attractive, functional, and comfortable environment for our faculty, staff, students, and visitors that will contribute to a positive learning experience and student success.

Under the immediate supervision of the Custodial Manager and/or Assistant Manager of Custodial Services, the Lead Custodian performs the full range of custodial work as needed; assist custodial staff in performing their duties; and provide support during absences; train and instruct others in the performance of their duties, including appropriate custodial practices and techniques, and the safe use of equipment and materials; assign, review, and inspect the work of assigned staff, including completing inspection forms; assist in maintaining employee time records and reporting absences and provide input to employee evaluations; coordinate custodial support for campus events; identify and report equipment, supply, and repair needs; identify and order necessary supplies and materials

Overview of Duties and Responsibilities:

• Guide, check, correct, and report on the work performed within Physical Plant's Custodial Services Unit.
• Performs custodial duties and responsibilities.
• Train and instruct custodians in the proper use of equipment, materials, and accepted custodial techniques.
• Assists custodial staff in the performance of their duties.
• Make inspections of custodians' work areas; and may assume absent custodians' Job duties.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Equivalent to one to two years of related custodial experience and providing on-the-job training and leadership to others.
  
• Valid California driver's license

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Working knowledge of the methods, chemicals, and equipment used in custodial work and of the safety and sanitation practices and measures.
• Effective lead/supervisory practices and techniques.
• Ability to provide lead work direction, including training others in proper work methods and safety and providing feedback on work performance.
• Read and write English at a level appropriate to the duties of the position.
• Use computers to track work orders and order supplies and materials; establish, promote, and maintain cooperative work relationships with others.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Education High School Graduation or equivalent
  
• Five (5) years of experience in custodial cleaning operations and at least one (1) year of custodial experience working in an institution of higher education.
