Full-time position available with the Health Department, Communicable Disease Prevention Division located at 2400 Troost Ave
Salary Range: $17.35-$26.47/hour
Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

Responsibilities
- Performs venipuncture on all patients that are present for testing.
- Performs training and orientation for students of phlebotomy during their medical assistant internship with the Division.
- Performs a variety of laboratory specimen collection procedures as required (venipuncture, finger sticks, etc.) and conducts routine laboratory work on collected specimens.
- Orders stock items for the clinics and stocks examination rooms as needed.
- Makes appointments for, receives and assists patients in their processing in an outpatient clinic facility
- Contacts patients regarding missed appointments.
- Uses a wide variety of office machines and data processing and/or computer-controlled equipment.
- Performs a narrow range of clerical functions including but not limited to.
- Files and performs data entry functions for correspondence, various charts, index cards and records, and other material according to established procedures.
- Communicates eligibility requirements, participants' rights and obligations, and any applicable laws and/or regulations affecting delivery of services provided by the department.
- Assists patients in the preparation of medical histories.
- Posts entries, summarizes data and maintains relative medical and operational records.
- Prepares examination rooms and assists physicians and practitioners as required.
- Prepares laboratory specimens for transport to reference laboratory and returns related reports.
- Contacts patients regarding abnormal or irregular laboratory results.
- Refers significant technical medical questions and data to appropriate physicians and/or practitioners.
- Cleans examination rooms at the end of the clinic day.
- Assists the nursing supervisor with stock medications as needed.
- Provides injections of medications and vaccines under supervision of a Registered Nurse.
- Assists nursing staff with all other duties as assigned by nursing supervisor.
- Performs related duties as required.
Qualifications
REQUIRES high school graduation and 1 year of experience in a clinical health setting performing medical assistant duties; OR completion of an accredited program for Medical Assistants; OR an equivalent combination of qualifying education and experience. Must pass a preemployment drug screen.

The minimum education requirement for positions that allow for experience equivalency for an accredited degree is a high school diploma. Unless otherwise specified, an accredited degree must be obtained from a college or university listed with the U.S. Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained.
Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.
If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
