Position DescriptionEmployees in this classification are responsible for providing professional nursing care in an assigned specialty or sub-specialty clinic. They perform a variety of general and specialized nursing duties as part of a total health care team to provide the patient with complete evaluations. Employees in this position generally assist the head nurse in the supervision of other clinic personnel and may substitute for this person in the event of his/her absence. May supervise and instruct subordinate nursing personnel. Receives supervision from head nurse or physician, functions independently within guidelines. May supervise ancillary nursing personnel in the performance of certain tasks, and assists in training personnel. Work is performed under usual clinic conditions and requires a high degree of contact with patients, families, and other clinic personnel and outside professionals.
Major/Essential Functions- Provide nursing care within the legal scope of practice, adhering to organizational policies and procedures in the academic medical setting.
- Demonstrate thorough understanding of the Texas Nursing Practice Act and Texas Board of Nursing Rules, ensuring patient safety and compliance with all relevant federal, state, and local regulations.
- Take full responsibility and accountability for delivering high-quality care to pediatric patients and their families.
- Assess the physical and mental health status, needs, and preferences of patients from diverse cultural, ethnic, and social backgrounds, using comprehensive health assessment data.
- Analyze health assessment findings to identify issues, set goals, and create personalized care plans in collaboration with patients, families, and the interdisciplinary care team, applying evidence-based practices.
- Evaluate patient outcomes and responses to treatment, compare them with evidence-based benchmarks, and adjust care plans as necessary to achieve optimal results.
- Develop and execute educational plans for patients and their families, focusing on health promotion, disease prevention, and ongoing health management.
- Efficiently coordinate human, informational, and material resources to support patient care.
- Implement practices that foster a safe and high-quality care environment for patients, staff, and others.
- Seek guidance or additional training as needed when performing new or complex nursing procedures.
- Accept and delegate patient care tasks based on patient safety, staff competence, and organizational policies.
- Utilize Electronic Health Records (EHR) to communicate patient information, supporting clinical decision-making and improving care outcomes.
- Refer patients and their families to community resources and services to ensure continuity of care and promote long-term health maintenance.
- Supervise and delegate nursing tasks to other healthcare team members, utilizing evidence-based practices and the departmental staffing model to optimize care delivery.
Required QualificationsCompletion of a Board of Nursing accredited program of professional nursing or scheduled to complete a program of professional nursing within 120 days of applying for a position. Current Registered Nursing license in the state of Texas or the attainment of a temporary permit from the Board of Nursing to practice professional nursing pending full licensure in the state of Texas. New graduates must pass the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX- RN) on the first attempt. No experience required.
