    Support Services Technician
    $23.46 - $30.05 Hourly
    $4,066.40 - $5,208.67 Monthly
    $48,796.80 - $62,504.00 Annually

    The City of Temecula is looking for a highly motivated, customer service-oriented team player to join our Support Services division. This role involves performing both technical and clerical tasks to provide centralized mail and multi-function printing services for our internal and external customers.

    Key Responsibilities:
    • Operate and maintain multi-function copy machines
    • Greet and assist customers with their inquiries
    • Answer multi-line phones and direct calls appropriately
    • Receive, sort, and distribute packages
    • Perform general clerical functions and other administrative tasks as needed

    The Ideal Candidate Will Be:
    • Proficient in using multi-function copy machines
    • Comfortable with a variety of tasks, including customer service and administrative duties
    • An excellent communicator and have a friendly demeanor
    • Able to work efficiently in a team-oriented environment


    Please Note: The current vacancy is a part-time position assigned to the Information Technology and Support Services Department. The anticipated work schedule is Monday-Friday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.

    DEFINITION

    Under general supervision performs technical and clerical work in providing centralized mail and multi-function printing services for internal and external customers.

    DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

    The Support Services Technician is the Journey level classification in the Support Services series. The employee participates in the effective implementation of all areas of Support Services operations. The Support Services Technician is distinguished from the Support Services Assistant by the level of responsibility assumed and the complexity of duties assigned.

    SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

    Receives general supervision from the Director of Information Technology/Support Services or his/her designee.

    No supervision is exercised.

    Examples of Duties

    Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
    • Operates digital high speed multi-function printers
    • Sets up and operates various auxiliary equipment
    • Ensures printers and auxiliary equipment are maintained, and makes arrangements for repairs through outside vendors
    • Advises user departments on options regarding appropriate materials and supplies for a given project
    • Participates in the preparation of the department budget; submits budget recommendations; monitors expenditures
    • Produces multiple, large-scale documents
    • Responsible for maintenance of all equipment and office supplies
    • Assists with coordination of interdepartmental mail distribution service and centralized shipping and receiving function
    • Provides reliable mail service in accordance with established delivery schedules
    • Assembles photocopying and postage amounts for each department
    • Assists with large-scale mailing projects
    • Compiles office supply and photocopier vendor information to inform supervisor of current equipment specifications and options; recommends the purchase of replacement products
    • Receives and distributes City purchased goods and supplies and may match packing slips to inventory
    • Processes all outgoing package shipments
    • Reports various records related to work of the department, including records of services performed for operating departments
    • Conducts pre and post trip inspections of vehicles to verify safety and proper operations or to identify potential problems; reports faulty equipment or operational problems
    • Prepares and writes a variety of reports and documentation, including detailed Risk Management incident reports
    • Performs other duties of a similar nature


    Minimum Qualifications

    EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

    High School Diploma or equivalent; and two (2) years of related experience.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

    Knowledge of:
    • Methods and procedures used in the collection and distribution of mail
    • Post office mailing specifications, and postage equipment
    • Paper, toner and other supplies that are utilized in printing work
    • Methods, materials and equipment used in the printing of materials
    • Occupational hazards and safety measures appropriate to work performed
    Skill to:
    • Operate various types of standard office equipment, including a personal computer and related software
    • Operate, troubleshoot, care for and perform basic repairs to multi-function printers, and specialized auxiliary equipment
    • Operate a motor vehicle in a safe manner
    Ability to:
    • Operate a variety of multi-function printing and specialized auxiliary equipment
    • Plan, organize and prioritize tasks in order to meet established deadlines
    • Classify, count, differentiate and sort alphanumeric data
    • Understand and carry out oral and written instructions
    • Establish and maintain courteous, cooperative and effective working relationships with those encountered in the course of work
    • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
    • Use proper English, spelling, grammar and punctuation
    • Prepare and maintain accurate and concise records
    • Serve as emergency services worker in the event of an emergency
    LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATES

    Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license and an acceptable driving record.

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

    Satisfactory results from a background investigation and administrative screening. The administrative screening may include a pre-employment drug screening for positions which are designated as safety sensitive or security sensitive, including but not limited to being responsible for the care and custody of children and operating heavy equipment.

    Requires use of a vehicle for pick-ups and deliveries.

The employee frequently stands or walks and lifts and moves records and documents or objects weighing up to 50 pounds alone, and up to 100 pounds with assistance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

    The employee is regularly required to use written and oral communication skills; read and interpret data, information and documents; use math and mathematical reasoning; perform; work with constant interruptions; and interact with staff, vendors, and the general public

    The employee typically works in office conditions; the noise level is frequently quiet or moderately quiet, at or below 50 decibels. The employee is subject to vehicle traffic and variable weather conditions when traveling to and from the Post Office and City facilities.

    This recruitment will establish an eligibility list which may be used to fill future vacancies in the same classification or below in the same classification series for both project and authorized positions.

    Note: A Project employee is an employee who is hired to work a specific period of time in a Fiscal Year. Project employees are: scheduled at the convenience of the City; not eligible for City sponsored benefits (e.g., health, dental, or vision insurance) unless otherwise specified; serve at the pleasure of the City Manager; and, specifically excluded from the Discipline policy (i.e. may be terminated at any time with or without notice). Typically, project positions do not exceed 1,000 hours in a fiscal year.

    PLEASE NOTE: If you are a CalPERS annuitant, please be advised that this position does not meet the statutory criteria for post-retirement employment because the incumbent will be performing regular staff duties for an undetermined duration. Employment in this capacity would require you to rescind your retirement and reinstate as a current member of CalPERS.

    Benefits for Project Employees

    Sick Leave
    In accordance with California State Law, all non-regular, temporary and seasonal employees will receive 40 hours of paid sick leave (PSL) upon hire. PSL will be available for use beginning on each employee's90thday of employment. Thereafter, in each pay period that includes July 1, employees will receive a new 40-hour lump sum of PSL. Any unused PSLhours will not carry over.
