    About this Position
    This position plans, organizes and directly supervises employees performing operation, maintenance and repair of the City's water and/or wastewater treatment facilities, Distribution or Collection systems and the electronic/electrical/technology systems.

    Anticipated starting salary for this position may be up to mid-point depending on candidate’s experience and internal equity. The full salary range is listed above and mid-point for this position is $49.88/hour or $103,708.80 annually.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Education and Experience
    • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) equivalent.
    • Must have at least one year of Lead or Supervisory experience.

    Utility Technology Assignment:
    • Five years of experience in an operation and maintenance of advanced and complex water production, treatment or distribution systems.
    • Preferred: Two years of college coursework in engineering, chemistry, water or wastewater technology or a related field.

    Licensing, Certifications and Other Requirements
    • Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted driver's license with no major citations within the past 39 months prior to the start date. The Arizona Department of Motor Vehicles requires that out-of-state driver's licenses must be surrendered within 10 days of relocating to the State of Arizona.
    • Completion of a one-time training requirement that includes 60 minutes of alcohol misuse training and 60 minutes of controlled substance use training, in accordance with FMCSA regulation 49 CFR 382.603 within 60 days of hire.
    • Every person employed by the City of Scottsdale shall reside in the State of Arizona during his or her active employment by the City, regardless of whether the employee is approved to remote work.

    Utility Technology Assignment:
    • Must possess upon hire or promotion Grade 1 operator certifications from the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality in Water or Wastewater depending on the assignment.
      • The certifications for the Utility Technology Water assignment must include one in Water Treatment and Water Distribution.
      • The certifications for the Utility Technology Wastewater assignment must include one in Wastewater Treatment and Wastewater Collections.
    • Must obtain within one year of hire or promotion and maintain a Grade 2 operator certification from the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality in Water or Wastewater.
      • The certifications for the Utility Technology Water assignment must include one in Water Treatment and Water Distribution.
      • The certifications for the Utility Technology Wastewater assignment must include one in Wastewater Treatment and Wastewater Collections.

    Other pertinent licenses and/or certifications may be required of some positions depending on department/section assignment.

    Essential Functions

    Performs duties and responsibilities commensurate with assigned functional area which may include, but are not limited to, any combination of the following:
    • Prepares, prioritizes, and monitors staff's work and leave schedules to assure appropriate staffing levels at all facilities.
    • Orders and maintains an adequate inventory of spare mechanical and/or electrical parts.
    • Serves as Contract Administrator for various contracts.
    • Provides detailed input into the preparation and justification of the annual operating and maintenance budget for their area of responsibility within the water and wastewater budgets.
    • Troubleshoots complex equipment failures; and assists in the resolution of technical problems.
    • Participates in reviewing plans, choosing engineering firms and coordinating construction activities for new projects.

    • Work is performed in a City office or field environment.
    • Walk up and down stairs and over rough terrain.
    • Work in adverse conditions, including extreme hot temperatures, cold temperatures, wind, rain and a high volume of noise.
    • Must be able to wear personal protective equipment to include boots, hard hats and hearing protection.
    • Works rotating weekend shifts and a call-out schedule.
    • Drives a motor vehicle.
