    The LA County Board of Supervisors has unanimously ratified a Proclamation of Local Emergency in response to the windstorms and wildfires , including the Palisades and Eaton Fires, that have devastated communities across the County. We are looking for qualified and passionate individuals to assist the County in mobilizing resources and support needed to help our residents recover and rebuild.     The Los Angeles County Fire Department is seeking qualified candidates to fill emergency Facilities Project Manager I vacancies related to this unprecedented natural disaster.

    Under the emergency order, applicants who meet the requirements may be hired for an initial period of up to 90 days, with an opportunity for permanent County employment.

    During your initial work period, you will be assessed on your work performance. This assessment will be weighted 100%.

    Those who successfully pass the assessment will be considered for permanent appointment to Facilities Project Manager I position.


    DEFINITION :
    Under general supervisions administers or assists in the administration and coordination of County facility design and construction projects or performs the more complex staff assignments related to program and space management.

    CLASSIFICATION STANDARDS :
    Positions allocable to this class are directly responsible for the coordination of County facility projects, through all phases, including design, construction and occupancy, and have immediate responsibility for the timely completion of these projects within budget limits. These positions may also assist a Facilities Project Manager II in the coordination of large and complex projects such as multi-storied office buildings, hospitals or jails, or may be responsible for the more complex staff assignments related to budget or space management. Assignments are made in general terms but work is reviewed in progress. Technical supervision is immediately available. Projects are generally smaller, less costly and more routine than those for which a Facilities Project Manager II would be responsible. Examples include single-storied office buildings, park buildings or lifeguard stations.

    Essential Job Functions

    • Coordinates the design and construction of small or routine County facility projects by acting as the immediately responsible contact for such projects.
    • Assists a Facilities Project Manager II in the coordination of large and complex projects.
    • Identifies potential problem areas in advance, takes corrective action or notifies competent authority as necessary.
    • Reviews changes in program plan requested by client departments and provides advice on budget, time and utility implications.
    • Coordinates and monitors construction inspections and makes periodic design or construction progress reviews and reports.
    • Recommends payments to architects and contractors based on contract requirements.
    • Develops plans and performs monitoring of current and approved capital projects budgets and makes recommendations for adjustments.


    Requirements

    SELECTION REQUIREMENTS :
    Graduation with a bachelor’s degree from an accredited* college or university and four years of construction program development experience, one year of which must have been in the independent performance of the more difficult staff assignments involving the design or construction of building projects including systems development, scheduling and resource management or budget and space management. Additional years of the construction program development experience will be accepted for each year of college on a year for year basis.

    LICENSE:

    A California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.
    OUT-OF-CLASS EXPERIENCE:
    Out-of-class experience will not be accepted for this recruitment.

    PHYSICAL CLASS II - Light: This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort that may include occasional light lifting to a 10-pound limit, and some bending, stooping, or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved.
