    Position Information

    The Sonoma County Economic Development Collaborative is looking for a skilled Extra-Help Administrative Coordinator to support their initiatives in broadband development and business retention and expansion!

    The Special Projects Administrative Coordinator will support various initiatives at the Sonoma County Economic Development Collaborative (EDC), including broadband programming and local economic development. This role is part of a collaborative partnership with the Town of Windsor and involves working half-time both on-site and remotely for Windsor while working under the guidance of the Town’s Economic Development Manager, as well as half-time at the EDC offices under the direction of the EDC's Special Projects Director. Additional responsibilities will include:

    • Performing research and collecting economic development metrics
    • Acting as a liaison with various partners on economic development initiatives and EDC special projects
    • Supporting business retention and expansion activities
    • M anaging multiple projects, planning, tracking, implement and meeting overlapping deadlines
    • Conducting outreach and engagement with members of the community
    • Coordinating communications for meetings and events

    The ideal candidate will have an understanding of economic development fundamentals and possess many of the following:

    • Excellent research, analytical, and writing skills
    • An interest in policy research, economic and workforce development and a commitment to public service
    • Experience generating reports and making public presentations
    • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
    • The ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both written and verbal
    • P roven ability to work with others at a wide range of levels, both internally and externally
    • Strong collaboration and teamwork skills
    • Excellent Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat and Canva skills


    Extra-Help Employment

    Extra-help employees relieve or augment permanent staff. Temporary, extra-help employees are not in the classified civil service and do not have property rights to permanently allocated positions. In addition, they do not receive most employee benefits such as long-term disability insurance coverage, accrual of vacation, participation in the County retirement program, or eligibility to take promotional examinations. Temporary, extra-help employees are limited in their employment to a maximum of one calendar year. These employees must be off of work for three months before they can be re-employed on an extra help basis. Extra-help employees who meet the eligibility requirements may qualify for a County contribution toward medical coverage.

    This recruitment is being conducted to fill an Administrative Coordinator temporary, e xtra-help position in the Economic Development Collaborative department. This employment list may also be used to fill future extra-help positions as they occur during the active status of the list. The Civil Service title of this position is Administrative Aide.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Experience: Work experience that would provide an opportunity to acquire the knowledge and abilities listed. Normally, some experience related to general administration, accounting, budgetary analysis, or human resources work including the compilation, tabulation, analysis, and presentation of statistical and narrative written reports would provide such opportunity.

    Education: Any combination of course work and training that would provide an opportunity to acquire the knowledge and abilities listed. Normally, academic course work in public administration, business administration, management, accounting, political science, economics, statistics, English composition, psychology or closely related courses would provide such opportunity.

    License: Possession of a valid driver's license at the appropriate level including special endorsements, may be required by the State of California, may be required depending upon assignment to perform the essential job functions of the position.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    Knowledge of: administrative techniques and principles of organization, accounting, budget and human resources administration; techniques and practices of research methodology, data collection, and preliminary analysis; report writing; application and use of basic statistics; interview techniques sufficient to obtain information related to employment and administrative matters; written and oral communications, including language mechanics, syntax and English composition; modern office methods and procedures; database, spreadsheet and word processing applications including basic methods of graphic presentations.

    Ability to: collect, compile and analyze qualitative and quantitative data; understand and explain laws, regulations and policies governing program operations; communicate effectively orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships with management, employees, clients, and the public; understand program objectives in relation to departmental goals and procedures; organize and prioritize work assignments; use and understand common database, spreadsheet and word processing applications; learn specialized computer applications.

    Certain positions may require the ability to speak, read and write fluent Spanish.

    The selection procedure will consist of the following examination:

    An Application and Supplemental Questionnaire Appraisal Examination (pass/not pass) will be conducted to evaluate each applicant's combination of educational coursework, training, experience, knowledge, and abilities that relate to this position to ensure satisfaction of the minimum qualifications for this position. Candidates who possess the minimum qualifications for the position will be placed on an extra-help employment list and referred to the department. The department may contact candidates from the employment list who possess the most appropriate job-related qualifications for further consideration.

    Additional Information

    A background investigation is required prior to employment. Candidates referred to departments for a selection interview are typically required to sign authorization and release forms enabling such an investigation.
