    Vacation & Sick Leave

    At the City of Buckeye, we understand the vital role that vacation time plays in supporting the mental, physical, and emotional well-being of our employees. Vacation and sick leave accruals begin on the first day of employment and may be used upon accrual. Additionally, employees receive credit towards vacation leave accruals for years of service with other public sector retirement systems nationwide (not including Federal service).

    Holidays

    The City of Buckeye observes eleven holidays per year: New Years Day, Martin Luther King Day, Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veteran's Day, Thanksgiving and the day after Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day.

    Retirement
    This position participates in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS). Contribution is mandatory, and the current contribution rate is 12%, per fiscal year.

    Primary Duties and Responsibilities

    GENERAL PURPOSE: Under close supervision, performs routine maintenance and general labor, cleaning, and transporting of city fleet assets including but not limited to vehicles, equipment, stationary generators and fuel sites.

    PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The following duties ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification, only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.
    • Performs a variety of manual labor and basic operation task as assigned; duties will vary according to daily activity needs.
    • Performs routine site compliance inspections of city fuel sites after fuel deliveries.
    • Performs routine site inspections and general tasks in the maintenance of stationary generators.
    • Inspects, cleans and reports any inoperative components at city fuel sites or stationary generators.
    • Performs routine maintenance including filter(s), hoses, stickers as needed at city fuel sites.
    • Performs tasks to support the transporting of vehicles or equipment to and from vendors.
    • Performs tasks to support fleet inventory, including cleaning, organizing, and recording current inventory levels.
    • Performs tasks to support various motor pools sites, washing, inspecting and fueling vehicles as needed.
    • Performs tasks to support part purchases from vendors, including pick up or delivery of parts.
    • Performs maintenance and manual labor work to variety of city assets under Fleet Managements realm of responsibility.
    • Assists in preparing city assets, equipment or vehicles for auction sale.
    • Performs various maintenance activities to support the cleanliness of maintenance shop area to include but not limited to emptying trash, sweeping debris from bay area, or operation floor scrubber to ensure safe work area.
    • Picks up and delivers materials as directed.
    • Operates a variety of light duty trucks and equipment in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures.
    • Operates a variety of minor tools in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures.
    • Wears all necessary assigned PPE’s while on site.
    • Completes required daily logs and reports.
    • Performs other duties as assigned or required.


    Minimum Qualifications & Position Requirements

    Education and Experience:
    High School diploma or GED equivalent. Previous experience in general maintenance of buildings, grounds or equipment operations preferred.

    Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
    Knowledge of:
    • City policies and procedures.
    • Principles and practices of building or grounds repair and maintenance.
    • Minor equipment maintenance and repair methods and materials.
    • Safety standards and practices.
    • Principles of basic record keeping and records management.
    Skill in:
    • Safe and efficient operation of light duty vehicles and equipment according to standard operating and safety procedures.
    • Reading and interpreting maps, technical specifications and operations manuals for vehicles and equipment.
    • Following and effectively communicating verbal and written instructions.
    Ability to:
    • Operate a city vehicle within established policy.
    • Establish and maintain positive, effective working relationships with those contacted in the performance of work.
    12-Month Goals:
    • Work with various Fleet staff to effectively increase technician efficiency and productivity.
    • Perform tasks assigned in an efficient and timely manner.
    • Keep fuel sites operational and clean of debris for all city staff.
    • Perform all record keeping timely and accurately.


    Additional Information

    Special Requirements: Possession of a valid Arizona Driver’s License.

    Physical Demands / Work Environment: Work is performed outdoors and in public facilities, lifting 50-100lbs frequently.

    Work Schedule: Monday-Thursday, Monday-Friday, Tuesday-Friday, Weekends & Holidays may be required

    Supervision Exercised: None
    FLSA Status: Non-exempt
