JOB SUMMARY JOB SUMMARY Operates various types of light and medium equipment used in the maintenance and upkeep of the Downtown Main Street District, including 20 blocks and downtown parklets; performs various types of grounds and maintenance tasks; assists in the cleaning of downtown, including general litter and various spills; provides various assistance in maintaining city property and amenities; provides assistance in maintaining city landscaping beds, planters, and irrigation; assists in the setup of special events; and performs other related duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DECISION MAKING ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Conducts routine grounds maintenance work:
- Removes and disposes of trash and debris from downtown.
- Cleans, removes, and disposes of hazardous materials from downtown.
- Cleans and maintains public sidewalks and alleys.
- Mows and maintains city parklets, downtown right of ways, and landscaping beds.
Operates various types of light and medium machinery, and/or repair equipment including but not limited to line mowers and push mowers; utilizes chain saws, weed eaters, pressure washer, and other power tools. Performs gardening/landscape application to include pesticide, herbicide and fertilizer. Participates in soil and landscape management for downtown beds and parklets. Performs maintenance, repair, and installation of city amenities, including bike racks, waste receptacles, signs, and benches.Provides assistance in the minor concrete repair of downtown sidewalks.Performs installation and repair of irrigation systems. Assists in setting up tents, tables, and chairs for City-sponsored events. Performs other related duties as assigned or required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Salary is dependent upon qualifications) MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS - High school diploma or equivalent is required
- 2 years related experience and/or training is required
- Valid Texas drivers license with an acceptable driving record is required.

- Effective verbal and written communication skills are required; must be able to maintain positive working relationships with departmental staff, vendors, and the general public.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS Highly repetitive, highly physical. Highly repetitive type work which requires the concentrated and non-diversified physical demands of the employee.
While performing the functions of this job, the employee is continuously required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk or hear; regularly required to climb or balance, taste or smell; and occasionally required to sit. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds; continuously lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision; distance vision; color vision; peripheral vision; depth perception; and ability to adjust focus.
Working conditions involve exposure to variable and/or extreme weather conditions, machinery with moving parts, hazardous materials/ chemicals, and infectious diseases is involved; utilizes personal protective equipment as necessary.
