    The Position

    Employee Development Managers and Training Officers analyze, design, develop, implement, evaluate, manage and coordinate training and development for a department, division or a geographic region of a department's statewide training function and supervise and/or conduct sessions for vocation and/or skills training in specific occupational areas and general management development.

    The Nevada State Fire Marshal Division is recruiting to fill a Training Officer 2 position within their Training bureau in Las Vegas. The incumbent will monitor Division fire and hazardous materials training programs and serve as the certification coordinator for the Certification Testing Program and the Liaison with training personnel. Incumbents develop programs to train Nevada fire service instructors, provide notification to Nevada Fire Departments of available programs, establish training programs in response to spills of hazardous materials and related fires, and assist other Nevada agencies and organizations to prepare and administer training programs.

    This position requires Nevada Fire Officer II certification or a certification that is accredited by International Fire Service Accreditation Congress; Nevada Fire Service Instructor II certification or a certification that is accredited by International Fire Service Accreditation Congress; and Hazardous Material Operations certification or a certification that is accredited by International Fire Service Accreditation Congress.***THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE WITHOUT FURTHER NOTICE DEPENDING ON THE NUMBER OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED.     To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in organizational behavior, education, communications, business or public administration or a related field and three years of professional experience in the adult and/or employee training and development process including conducting training needs assessments; planning and developing curriculum; and coordinating and conducting formal training; OR graduation from high school or equivalent education and five years of professional experience as described above; OR one year experience as a Training Officer I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Notes The position has a 25% travel requirement. Special Requirements A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. A valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. Additional Position Criteria International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) Fire Officer certification is required. Hazardous Materials Operation certification is required. Nevada Fire Service Instructor 2 certification is required. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level. From majestic mountains to desert valleys, nature has endowed Nevada with diverse and unique ecosystems.
