    This position will be located at 2650 Delmar Blvd, St. Louis, MO 63103

    If you like interacting with people of all ages, backgrounds and interests, this job is for you! In this position, through planning and implementing outreach programs, you will foster memorable connections to Missouri’s outstanding natural and cultural heritage. This position requires working some evenings and weekends along with frequent travel and overnight stays (1-2 times per month). Additionally, the physical ability to move and load special event equipment, as well as assist with outdoor events in extreme weather conditions is essential.

    • Assist with the planning, coordination, and implementation of St. Louis area annual programming such as Show Me Summer Camps, Y Rangers, WOW school, Seniors to Parks trips, etc.
    • Assist with trips to various state parks and historic sites in the St. Louis Area/Eastern Region, including coordination of bus transportation.
    • Assist with the promotion and marketing of STLAO programming and events, as well as area state park and historic site events.
    • Establish and foster collaborative partnerships with a variety of local and state recreation providers, school districts, community organizations, libraries, Missouri Parks Association, and other organizations.
    • Assist with and offer programs that cultivate lasting connections to Missouri’s rich natural and cultural heritage.
    • Collaborate with state parks and historic sites, primarily in the Eastern Region, on outreach and programming needs.
    • Oversee specialized programming equipment and supplies.
    • Assist with strategic planning and provide recommendations for expanding outreach programming to all citizens.
    • Assist with leading seasonal workers, interns and community volunteers.
    • Assist with and/or lead other team initiatives.


    To be successful in this position, a candidate will need the following skills:

    • Interpretation - Ability to coordinate, manage and direct interpretive or educational programing related to natural or cultural resources in a way that conveys significance to visitors; connecting them to personal relevance, shared learning, meeting specific learning objectives (i.e. educator or community needs), informing public about compliance and safety, supporting management of natural or cultural resources representative of national heritage, and enhancing mutual understanding for individual and social benefit.
    • Adaptability - Adjusts planned work by gathering relevant information and applying critical thinking to address multiple demands and competing priorities in a changing environment.
    • Decision Making - Makes sound, well-informed, and objective decisions; perceives the impact and implications of decisions; commits to action, even in uncertain situations, to accomplish organizational goals; causes change.
    • Leadership - Influences, motivates, and challenges others; adapts leadership styles to a variety of situations.
    • Customer Service - Anticipates and meets the needs of both internal and external customers. Delivers high-quality products and services; is committed to continuous improvement.
    • Computer Skills - Uses computers, software applications, databases, and automated systems to accomplish work.


    Equivalent to those typically gained by:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental, Biological or Natural Sciences, Natural Resources, Resource Management, History, Anthropology, Archaeology, Parks and Outdoor Recreation, Communications, Public Relations, or a closely related field and 2-4 years of experience. (Additional education or experience may substitute for the required education or experience)


    This position requires the ability to achieve and maintain certification in First Aid/CPR. Certified Interpretive Guide certification preferred. Training, certification, and/or education in continuous process improvement programs such as Lean Six Sigma as well as completion of Missouri Way, Leadership Academy, and similar programs is preferred.
