    Description

    The City of Laguna Beach is seeking a skilled, knowledgeable, and detail-oriented Paralegal to support the City Attorney’s Office in delivering high-quality legal services to the organization and community. This role is essential in assisting with public records requests, general liability claims, legal research, litigation support, contract and document review, managing legal deadlines, public meeting agenda preparation, interfacing with the public on behalf of the City Attorney’s Office, and other general administrative tasks. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the California Public Records Act and litigation and/or claims management principles, excellent organizational and communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

    Qualifications

    Any combination demonstrating the ability to effectively and successfully perform the duties of the position is considered qualifying. A typical combination is as follows:

    Experience: Two years of responsible journey-level paralegal experience.

    Education: Equivalent to satisfactory completion of a program in paralegal studies from an American Bar Association-approved institution. Successful completion of at least two years of education at an ABA accredited law school may be substituted for the completion of a paralegal or legal assistant program.

    This recruitment will establish an eligibility list that may be used to fill future vacancies in the same or lower classifications.

    Application/Selection Process: Applications will be accepted on a continuous basis, with a first review on August 6, 2025. Applications will be screened carefully, and selected applicants will be invited to participate in the Structured Panel Interview. The appointing hiring authority will further review the job-related qualifications of those deemed eligible for hire before making selection decisions. The selection process may be modified based on the needs of the City.

    Pre-employment Process: Selected candidates must successfully pass a fingerprint check with the State Department of Justice. Education and employment verification and reference check(s) will also be conducted.
