San Bernardino County Fire Protection District is recruiting for a
Communications Technician , who will be responsible for installing, maintaining and repairing fixed and mobile radio equipment, cellular modems and handheld radios, mobile data terminals, antennas, associated feed lines, and ancillary equipment including encoders, decoders, pagers, power supplies, electronic sirens, lightbars, and other complex electronic equipment, located on fire apparatus and possessed by fire personnel, to facilitate and maintain uninterrupted communication; requires knowledge of Federal Communications Commission rules and regulations governing the operation and repair of governmental radio transmitters and receivers. Incumbents may be assigned work as a lead to other staff.

Travel: A valid California Class C Driver License is required to carry out the essential job-related functions of this position. Proof of automobile liability insurance must be maintained.
Physical: Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
Work Hours: May be required to work overtime as needed in order to provide assistance after hours and weekends/holidays.
Sponsorship: San Bernardino County is not able to consider candidates who will require visa sponsorship at the time of application or in the future.
Minimum RequirementsEducation: Fifteen (15) semester (23 quarter) units of completed college or post-high school technical coursework in electronics or communication technology; equivalent related certifications or relevant classroom instruction hours may be considered.

-AND-Experience: Two (2) years of experience installing, maintaining, and repairing radio equipment and emergency vehicle systems.
Substitution: An additional twelve (12) months of qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education.

Desired QualificationsThe ideal candidate will have in-depth experience installing and repairing emergency communication equipment on emergency vehicles.
