    *** Temporary Position. Anticipated initial appointment 12 - 18 months with possible extension. ***

    RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

    The Interim Dean will provide leadership for the MVS School of Business and Economics by providing strategic leadership within the school; oversee and advocate for all programs in the School of Business and Economics; oversee the implementation of grants awarded to the School of Business and Economics and the operations of the Smith Decision Center; and supervise the directors of the Entrepreneurship & Small Business Institute, the Institute for Global Economic Research, and the California Institute of Social Business; oversight over Director of Accreditation & Strategic Initiatives, supervise staff support for the School of Business and Economics; have responsibility for Business school accreditation and implementing outcomes assessment for undergraduate and graduate business and economics programs including liaison with the accreditor. The Interim Dean will be expected to develop/launch new academic programs, including graduate degrees, that reflect the diversity of the region and its changing economic base, while growing the overall enrollment of the School. The Interim Dean will be expected to work actively on donor relations and stewardship.

    The Interim Dean will also have responsibility for ensuring academic quality within the School of Business and Economics including implementing outcomes assessment for all education programs; work in collaboration with the program coordinators, unit heads, and/or chairs, and directors to facilitate the work of the faculty; support a scholar-teacher model of the faculty, including professional development opportunities in teaching, scholarship, and solicitation of grants; oversee the development of course schedules in consultation with business and economics faculty; assist in the development and implementation of student academic policies for the School of Business and Economics: facilitate the evaluations of the lecturers in the School of Business and Economics as provided by the University's policy on lecturer evaluations; and support program chairs in overseeing the retention, tenure and promotion processes for faculty in the School of Business and Economics. The Interim Dean will be expected to lead the School to achieve the CSU system-wide graduation and retention goals, in particular, by closing the equity gap for URM and Pell eligible students.

    The Interim Dean oversees the planning and execution of the budget for the School of Business and Economics in consultation with the Budget & Planning Office for Academic Affairs.

    REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION:

    Education: An earned doctorate in an appropriate field. A record of excellent teaching scholarship and service, and eligibility for appointment at the rank of Professor.

    Experience:
    • Significant experience in academic leadership in higher education commensurate with the position of dean and experience with enrollment management, human resource and budget management.
    • Demonstrated skill in team building and working with diverse constituencies.
    • Experience with national accreditation procedures in management education.
    • Experience working in a collective-bargaining environment.

    Other Knowledge/Skills:
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with proven ability to work collaboratively with faculty, students, staff, other administrators and community/school partners.
    • Evidence of a strong commitment to effectively engage and work with a diverse student population, many of whom are first-generation and/or come from minoritized groups.
    • Evidence of effective cross-cultural interpersonal and communication skills (i.e., multicultural competencies).
    • A proven record of support and advancement for faculty and staff from minoritized groups.
    • Commitment to academic excellence and the ability to work with faculty to develop, articulate and implement a constructive vision for the School of Business and Economics in addition to demonstrated commitment to diversity and building a multicultural teaching and learning community.
    • A record or significant potential to work effectively with donors and foundations.

    A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU.     The person holding this position is considered a ‘Campus Security Authority (CSA)’ to report crimes for the federally mandated Clery Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1107 revised March 24, 2017 as a condition of employment.

    The person holding this position is considered a ‘mandated reporter’ under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 Revised July 21, 2017 as a condition of employment.

    Hiring Range: $16,000 - $18,333 per month
