    The Position

    Contra Costa County's central Human Resources Department is looking for an exceptional leader to manage the Talent & Development Division. This division includes recruitment, retention, performance assessment, classification, and compensation. The HR Manager serves as a senior leader in the department and regularly interacts at the highest levels of County leadership, including department directors, the County Administrator, and the Board of Supervisors.
    The HR Manager reports to the Director of Human Resources. ln your capacity as HR Manager, you will continue to drive transformational change in public sector human resources practices. Your primary team will consist of 25 full-time employees.

    The HR team has been cultivated to encourage and support creative, technology-based innovations. They are curious, motivated, independent, and adaptable. As the team leader, you will bring a comprehensive understanding of best practices in HR from across the spectrum of services, partner with subject matter experts and hiring managers to develop solutions to operational problems and foster continuous improvement for the benefit of the entire County organization.

    Resumes will be screened in relation to the criteria outlined in this brochure. Candidates deemed to have the most relevant qualifications will be invited to interview with the consultant. CPS HR Consulting will report the results to Contra Costa County. The County will then select candidates to be interviewed by a panel. A final interview process may be scheduled for selected candidates along with extensive reference and background checks.

    CONVICTION HISTORY

    After you receive a conditional job offer, you will be fingerprinted, and your fingerprints will be sent to the California Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The resulting report of your conviction history (if any) will be used to determine whether the nature of your conviction conflicts with the specific duties and responsibilities of the job for which you have received a conditional job offer. If a conflict exists, you will be asked to present any evidence of rehabilitation that may mitigate the conflict, except when federal or state regulations bar employment in specific circumstances. Having a conviction history does not automatically preclude you from a job with Contra Costa County. If you accept a conditional job offer, the Human Resources department will contact you to schedule a fingerprinting appointment.

    DISASTER SERVICE WORKER

    All Contra Costa County employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law. Employment with the County requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
