This position has responsibilities that require lifting up to 50-100 pounds on occasion.
- Provides service to the general public by scanning the water to monitor activities, informing customers of upcoming events and answering inquiries.
- Ensures the safety of the general public by enforcing pool rules and regulations, monitoring activities and providing assistance when necessary.
- Assisting swimmers at risk of drowning and providing first aid.
- Regular and dependable attendance is required.
- All other duties as assigned by a supervisor/manager within your department/division.
Minimum QualificationsAny combination equivalent to experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may qualify. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills and abilities would be:
- Education: Work requires the ability to read and understand written instructions, to understand simple processes and the routine operation of machines. Level of knowledge equivalent to less than high school or equivalency.
- Experience: Swimming skills are required. Interview consists of a swim test of 100 yards without stopping and retrieving a 10lb diving brick from the bottom of the pool and swimming with brick to the top without stopping.
- Licenses: None.
- Certifications Required: Lifeguarding, CPR, First Aid. Training will be provided upon hire.
For city employees who are regular part time (10-19 hours per week) or seasonal hired placed on City payroll, the following benefits are provided:
- PARS - Public Agency Retirement System: the employee contributes 6.2% each paycheck to this retirement system and the city provides 1.3%. The employee does not pay into Social Security. All of the employees contributions may be withdrawn upon separating service from the city. The City's contributions will not be paid unless the employee retires under the system.
- Part time or seasonal employees are not eligible for any paid leave or other benefits.
- Part time or seasonal employees are limited to working only 1,000 hours per 12-month period, unless the seasonal is project based for a specific period of time which is typically less than 12-months.
