RoleUnder general direction, performs professional library and administrative duties, supervises branch library operations and services including personnel, and participates in and supervises community outreach.
Major Duties, Responsibilities- Provides professional training to branch library staff and volunteers including but not limited to coordinating continuing education training, understanding library policies, procedures, and practices; the principals of collection management including budgeting; organizing and implementing library programming; and the usage of library databases.
- Serves as primary point of contact between the Library Coordinators and the Library District.
- Hires, trains, supports, supervises, and performs evaluations of assigned branch library employees.
- Assists in the planning, coordination, and completion of special projects such as LSTA grants and partnership grants with other departments and organizations.
- Assists in the implementation and development of administrative policies and procedures.
- Prepares training materials and other instructional materials as needed.
- Travels to assigned branch libraries.
- Substitute for Library Coordinator staff as needed.
- Schedule staff to ensure branch libraries are open in the event of staff absence.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum QualificationsEducation:Master’s Degree in Library Science.
Experience:A minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience in a public library environment.
An equivalent combination of directly related work experience and education may substitute for the degree requirement on a year-per-year basis.
Additional Requirements:Must possess a valid Arizona driver’s license.

Ability to:- Maintain a highly qualified staff sufficient to meet the long-term organizational goals of the department.

- Travel to branch libraries to perform essential job duties and training.
- Perform work involving extensive personal contact with others that can be of a personal or sensitive nature.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, employees of other departments, representatives of other organizations, County officials, and the public.
- Keep management informed of key operating issues affecting the department.
- Remain current in knowledge required to perform assigned duties.
- Handle confidential matters and maintain discretion always.
- Act with courtesy, tact, and diplomacy.
Work Environment:The work environment is associated with an office and public library and requires travel from site to site. The work area is adequately lighted, heated or cooled and ventilated.
Physical Requirements:Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time. Sufficient vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech ability to communicate effective in-person and telephonically. Capable of frequent repetitive movement of arms, fingers, and wrists. Ability to lift up to 20 pounds.
