    13% salary increase for all general non-management classifications, effective October 1, 2025.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    Under immediate supervision, assists in planning, organizing, implementing, and executing a wide range of City-sponsored recreational programs, activities, and special events designed to provide positive experiences and promote personal growth and development for participants.

    This list of tasks is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed by positions in this class.

    TASKS
    • Patrol and monitor indoor and outdoor park amenities, including but not limited to athletic fields, courts, playgrounds, pools, buildings, restrooms, picnic areas, gates/doors, etc.
    • Document and report park patrol findings such as graffiti, homeless situations, safety concerns, suspicious activity, park ordinance violations, dangerous situations, vandalism, etc.
    • Execute specific responsibilities in youth sports, camps, clinics, special events, after-school care, food program, etc.
    • Supervise participants in program activities and enforce safety regulations to secure the well-being of all participants and spectators.
    • Prepare fields for games and practices, set up, and break down park facilities for activities and events.
    • Conduct inventory, maintain facilities and equipment, and ensure all are clean and stored properly.
    • Complete incident, accident, and behavior reports.
    • Secure park facilities, including, but not limited to, restrooms, gates, courts, buildings, and fields.
    • Assist in collecting, organizing, and documenting records of attendance, payments, and various paperwork.
    • Perform other division/department-related duties as assigned.


    QUALIFICATIONS

    High school graduate/GED AND six months of experience working in sports, camps, municipality, or school setting. Experience supervising large groups or events in a structured environment is highly desirable, as is possession of current First Aid and CPR certification. Current high school students aged 16 or above must be able to obtain a valid work permit from their high school.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS
    • KNOWLEDGE OF CPR and First Aid procedures; Park/facility rules, basic maintenance, code of conduct for all involved at athletic events, safety guidelines, record maintenance, recreational activities, event planning methods and techniques, and facilities security and safety best practices;
    • SKILLED IN responding professionally to conflict and working collaboratively with individuals and groups; Effectively communicating verbally and in writing, following written and oral instructions, and establishing and maintaining a positive team first work environment with productive working relationships; working independently and with a team, to demonstrate a strong work ethic and provide and follow oral and written instructions in English;
    • ABILITY TO Act professionally and positively, with confidence and enthusiasm, motivate and lead other program staff, volunteers, and participants; Provide instruction and guidance to program participants and other support staff; Plan and facilitate a variety of recreational programs and activities;
    • PROFICIENCY IN using work-related computer applications, including email, word processing, spreadsheets, databases, the internet, and other electronic applications and devices to perform essential job duties; Basic principles and practices of customer service, Ethics, techniques, and rules of competitive and non-competitive activities and/or recreation programs; scorekeeping, timekeeping, and officiating for assigned sports.


    WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    Work is performed in indoor and outdoor environments. Must have the physical strength and agility to lift, carry, and pull tables, chairs, equipment, etc., up to 50 pounds regularly; bend and twist in all directions, and squeeze with arms and hands. In addition, work may require prolonged sitting, standing, walking, reaching, turning, kneeling, bending, squatting, and stooping.

    THE SELECTION PROCESS

    Consists of an application review to ensure that all applicants meet the minimum requirements for the job classification. A select number of qualified applicants will be invited to an interview with the Hiring Authority. All employment offers are contingent on a criminal background review via fingerprint submission for applicants over 18 years of age and provision of evidence of freedom from tuberculosis. Every individual the City employs must complete and sign the US Government form I-9 and provide documentation required by law showing that they are eligible to work in the United States.
