    Job Summary

    Starting Salary: Mechanic I - $18.08 - $23.01

    Mechanic II - $19.14 - $24.40

    Mechanic III - $20.29 - $25.86

    Job Description:

    Performs skilled mechanical work analyzing and diagnosing problems. Inspects, replaces, and/or repairs defective parts. Performs preventative maintenance on City of Orlando automobiles, tractors, mowers, trucks, street sweepers, equipment, fire trucks and equipment, police cars and/or motorcycles, and small engines. Assigns and oversees work and training of lower-level mechanics. Performs a variety of tasks requiring specialized knowledge and skills. Work is performed under general supervision and is reviewed while in progress and upon completion for accuracy and completeness.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Mechanic I - High School Diploma/G.E.D. Certificate and one (1) year mechanical experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Require a valid Florida Class D License. Some positions in the Streets Division may require a Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) Intermediate Certification within three (3) months of hire date. Must own a standard set of mechanic tools.

    Mechanic II - High School Diploma/G.E.D. Certificate and three (3) years of mechanical experience in the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Valid Florida Class D Driver's License required at the time of employment. Some positions may require Temporary Traffic Control (TTC) or Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) Intermediate Certification within three (3) months from the hire date. Must own a standard set of mechanic tools.

    Mechanic III - High School Diploma/G.E.D. Certificate and four (4) years of mechanical experience in the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Mechanics require a valid Florida Class D CDL. Some positions may require a Temporary Traffic Control (TTC) or Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) Intermediate Certification within three (3) months of hire. Must own a standard set of mechanic tools. Computer operation and software skills required to retrieve and closeout work request. Required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

    If this posting indicates a degree is required, the following experience will apply in lieu of any degree as follows:
    • Two (2) years of direct experience for an associate degree;
    • Four (4) years of direct experience for a bachelor's degree;
    • Six (6) years of direct experience for a master's degree; or
    • Nine (9) years of direct experience for a doctoral degree.
