ABOUT THE POSITIONThe Clark County Information Technology Department is seeking qualified candidates to apply for the Telecommunications Technician position. This position supports Clark County’s enterprise communications by managing mobile devices, auditing telecom expenses, maintaining inventory, and resolving technical issues. This role is key to ensuring reliable, cost-effective telecom services for County departments, and requires strong knowledge of Microsoft 365.
This examination will establish an Open Competitive Eligibility list to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months or may be extended as needed by Human Resources.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSEducation and Experience: Equivalent to two (2) years of college level course work in information systems, computer science, wireless communications or a related field AND two (2) years of full-time experience in the telecom field providing customer service and installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of network hardware, software and equipment. Additional experience as outlined above may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis. All qualifying education and each experience must be clearly documented in the “Education” and “Work Experience” sections of the application.

Working Conditions: Work extended shifts or be called back in emergency situations.
Licensing and Certification: Must possess a valid Class C Nevada driver's license at time of appointment.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES- Participates in the ordering of telephone, fax and modem lines; assists in preparing project or equipment specifications.
- Orders dedicated circuits and ISDN lines.
- Works with end users to identify and obtain the correct telephones and wireless systems and features to meet department/unit needs.
- Assists with video and data networks.
- Maintains leased circuit, telephone equipment and radio inventory.
- Works as a team member to implement new technology and to assist in projects to automate and improve existing processes.
- Works with County purchasing to effectively manage services, contracts and invoices from telecommunications service providers.
- Reviews service provider invoices including auditing and cost allocation and approval to assure accurate and timely payment.
- Manages vendor issues and coordinates resolution with service providers to assure appropriate action is taken and that all issues are fully documented and tracked in the invoice management system.
- Works with department administration, Purchasing and Finance to resolve contract, billing, or collection issues.
- Tests and Inspects components, equipment and systems as needed; performs preventive maintenance on systems and equipment as required.
- Estimates materials, parts, tools and equipment needed for work assignments; orders and picks up or receives materials, equipment and/or supplies from outside vendors as appropriate.
- Reads diagrams, blueprints, specifications and manuals for installation and repair projects.
- May develop training exercises for department telephone liaisons and update curricula as required.
- Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team.
- Ensures that proper safety precautions are followed.
- Maintains records of work performed and materials used.
- Drives County vehicles to work sites and transports materials as required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDSMobility to work in a typical office setting and use standard office equipment and tools and equipment related to the telecommunications industry. Stamina to remain seated for extended periods, strength to lift and maneuver materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone.
