DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Work on projects assigned by the Director of Legal Services.
RESPONSIBILITIES: • Conducts legal research, analysis of legal questions, drafting ordinances, and works on legislation issues
• Fields and answers informal inquiries (via email or telephone) from Department personnel, residents, and other attorney’s including research and investigation time necessary to answer these questions.
• Assist Department personnel, with questions or issues they have with the production, gathering, and release of records in response to subpoenas.
• Coordinating with the City Legal Department on responding to issues or litigation.
• Acts as liaison with the District Attorney’s Office, United States Attorney’s Office, and the courts of Harris and contiguous counties.
• All duties and responsibilities may not be included in the above job descriptions.
WORKING CONDITIONS The position is physically comfortable; the individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc.
There are no major sources of discomfort, i.e., essentially normal office environment with acceptable lighting, temperature and air conditions.
“Must be able to pass a criminal background check, obtain and maintain federally mandated security clearance where required.”If applicable, the applicant’s past performance evaluations, past and present supervisory recommendations, and/or Internal Affairs complaint history will be reviewed and considered.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS Require a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Public Administration or a related field.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Four years of professional experience in business administration, finance or a closely related field are required.
Directly related professional experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-to-year basis.
LICENSE REQUIREMENTS None.
PREFERENCESPreference will be given to applicants who are licensed to practice law in the State of Texas.
