Salary Range: $125,000 - $136,000
The salary indicated represents a base pay rate. If the candidate selected is eligible for a years-of-service pay differential, it will be added to the total compensation. A pay differential does not raise the base pay.

This position serves Missourians as Chief Counsel to the Department of Commerce and Insurance, managing attorneys and staff who handle a wide range of issues including the compliance and enforcement of Missouri’s insurance laws and regulations. In this role, you will directly contribute to the Department’s mission of protecting Missouri consumers through oversight of the insurance industry and other entities.
- Serve as the deputy to the Department’s General Counsel.
- Manage and supervise a team of attorneys and paralegals assisting the Department in the administration of insurance laws and other laws administered by the Department.
- Assign matters to Legal and Senior Counsel and manage workloads.
- Provide advice on and determine case strategy and direction.
- Conduct and direct legal research and analysis of legal issues, determine case strategy, and exercise discretion and reliable judgment.
- Provide legal support on issues involving insurance regulation, rulemaking, legislation, and related areas.
- Ensure accurate responses are made to subpoenas, fiscal notes, legislative proposals, and other records requests.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
What are the qualifications for the position? Graduation from an accredited law school and membership with good standing in the Missouri Bar. Candidates with judicial clerkship experience or other experience in administrative law and litigation, insurance law, prior government service, or related fields are encouraged to apply.
Employment in this position may qualify individuals for the provisions under the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program.
