    The existing temporary vacancies reside in County Parks located in South County , including Lake San Antonio, Lake Nacimiento, and San Lorenzo Park.

    The Public Works, Facilities & Parks Department (PWFP) brings together a range of functions to ensure safe building construction, plan for the future needs of the County, manage infrastructure and county facilities, and protect natural resources. The Department is responsible for public works, county roads and bridges, county parks, and county facilities.

    The Public Works, Facilities & Parks Department seeks to fill temporary vacancies in the Temporary P ark Services Aide I classification. The Temporary Park Services Aide I classification supports the facilitation of park operations by performing visitor service support activities, including fee collection, routine grounds and facility maintenance and various visitor services related to public access and use in a park facility. This class works under the direction of a Park Ranger, Senior Park Ranger, Supervising Park Ranger or management level classification.

    The Eligible List established by this recruitment process may be used County-wide to fill current and future vacancies on a regular full-time, part-time, or temporary basis.

    Examples of Duties

    • Receiving and accounting for cash and issuing receipts.
    • Communicate with public in receiving and giving out a wide variety of information pertaining to recreational facilities.
    • Explain rules and regulations.
    • Use telephone and two-way radio.
    • Perform routine park, grounds and facility maintenance, gardening, clean-up, unskilled manual labor.

    THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE
    Will have a proven track record demonstrating the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

    Some Knowledge of:
    • Handling and accounting for cash.
    • Proper use and care of hand and power tools used in buildings and grounds maintenance work.
    • Basic operations, tools and terms used in grounds maintenance trades.


    Skill and Ability to:
    • Learn, understand and convey park rules and regulations.
    • Met public with tact and courtesy, verbally provide park information and interpret park rules and regulations.
    • Follow oral and written instructions.
    • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others.
    • Drive a vehicle.


    Examples of Experience/Education/Training

    Any combination of training, education and/or experience which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities and required conditions of employment is qualifying. An example of a way these requirements might be acquired is:

    Park Services Aide I: 3 months of experience, education or training performing any of the duties listed at this level.

    Additional Information

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

    The required conditions of employment include, but are not limited to the following:
    • Possess a valid California Class C driver license at the time of appointment and possess and maintain a satisfactory driving record or provide evidence of suitable transportation which is approved by the appointing authority.
    • Be available to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and during times of disaster and/or emergency; travel out of County to attend meetings.
    • Wear a uniform.
    • Work outdoors and under adverse weather conditions.
