    Description

    The Probate Attorney Administrator is responsible for the flow of all probate, guardianship, mental health, and ancillary matters through the Court from pre-filing through final disposition. Position is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring the Court's annual budget. Position is responsible for advising, supervising, and evaluating assigned staff, monitoring staff caseloads and assigning cases as appropriate, providing in-house training and education, and verifying the implementation of Court policies and procedures. The position requires legal research and legal analysis in order to advise the Court and staff on legal precedent including the more complex issues involved in some annual accountings and management trusts. The Attorney Administrator also performs duties as a Court Investigator in complex contested guardianship matters.

    Examples of Duties

    Formulates, develops, and presents recommendations to the Court to resolve problems and analyzes legal questions involved in complex cases. Consults with and advises the Court and Court staff on legal issues associated with pending cases.

    Develops and manages the Court's budget and purchasing to ensure all expenditures are made in accordance with County policy and with budgetary limits. Analyzes Court workload and expenditures to develop recommendations for budget requests and expenditures. Drafts and processes budget amendments or intradepartmental fund transfer requests as needed.

    Performs duties as a Court Investigator in complex contested guardianship matters requiring higher degrees of specialization and experience. This includes close monitoring and supervision over Court created management trusts, funds held in the registry of the Court, and bond solvency in complex estate administrations.

    Advising, supervising and evaluating assigned staff. Monitors staff caseloads and assign cases as appropriate, provide in house training and education, and verifies the implementation of Court policies and procedures.

    Consults with and answers questions form private attorneys, their staff, pro se parties, and the public regarding the Court's policies and procedures, probate and guardianship law, and civil procedure. In uncontested matters, discusses with private attorneys which Court process will best accomplish their goals.

    Regular and punctual attendance is required.

    Performs other related duties as required.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Doctoral degree and a minimum seven years of experience in a related field required.

    Must possess a license to practice law in the State of Texas.

    Ad Litem certification required.

    Current Guardianship certification preferred.
