Why you’ll love this position:The administrative intern (geographic information system specialist) performs routine entry-level activities in the design, implementation, and support of geographic information systems (GIS) applications and databases. Responsibilities are performed under moderate supervision.
What you’ll do: - Creates or integrates updates and edits of the state master roads dataset, including route marking changes, construction changes, and error corrections using a variety of data sources including design plans, intersection log book, aerial photography and other existing maps; edits dataset by manipulating the spatial coordinates and relationships of geographic features (points, lines, and polygons) and associated attributes.
- Create, edit, and update files used to develop state highway maps, district maps, county maps, and a variety of other maps used both internally and externally.
- Writes computer programs to meet specific GIS needs, improve the data entry process for end users, and improve the efficiency of GIS software; runs programs to ensure edits to GIS data are accurate.
- Provides customer service and responds to special requests, including troubleshooting and assisting users with global positioning system and program problems, research and data collection for special requests, and presentations as necessary.
- Extracts graphical data from the map library and processes the data for GIS applications.
All you need for success:Minimum Qualifications - Enrolled in a relevant bachelor’s or post-bachelor’s degree program full-time (12+ credit hours).
- 30 credit hours completed/accepted toward current degree program. High school or other postsecondary program credits must be shown to be accepted by the current program through a degree transcript to apply.
- Possess and maintain an overall GPA of at least 2.0 out of 4.0, or equivalent.
Special Working Conditions: - This is a wage, non-benefits eligible position, working no more than 1,039 hours per year.
- The typical working hours are Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
