    Description:

    Jefferson County Open Space is currently seeking a Trail Services Specialist. This position provides you the opportunity to work for a county that thrives on working collaboratively and engaging the public.     The Trail Services Specialist performs a variety of skilled work in the construction, maintenance, repair and restoration of Open Space Trails and related facilities and structures in the Jefferson County Open Space trail systems. Supervise and train peers, LTEs, Seasonals, Trail Stewardship Team employees, volunteers and community service workers. Perform all aspects of trail construction and maintenance. Operate heavy equipment in remote locations under hazardous conditions. Mobilize labor and resources to remote locations. Assist with design and layout of trail construction projects.



    SCHEDULE:

    This position operates on our four-day work week (Monday-Thursday, 7:00am - 5:30pm). This position requires work to be performed on-site.

    COMPENSATION:

    Hiring Range: $28.00 - $31.00 USD Hourly

    Compensation will be determined based on education, experience, and skills.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
    • This is an in-field position.
    • Work involves design, constructing and maintaining hard surface and natural surface trails for the safe recreational use of the general public. Employee is also responsible for performing inspections, preparing reports, trail layout and site reconstruction, managing trail maintenance and construction projects.
    • This position will be responsible for all aspects of trail construction and maintenance; to include trail layout, corridor cleaning (removing trees and vegetation), andmaintenance and repair of existing trails.
    • Oversee the work of trail LTE’s, seasonals, stewardship team supervisors/ crew leaders/laborers and volunteers. Mobilize and allocate workforce and resources. Direct project implementation and completion.

    Minimum Qualifications:
    • High school diploma or GED or equivalent certificate.
    • A minimum of one year experience in trail work, construction, landscaping, natural resources or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Must be physically able to operate a variety of equipment, including trucks, 15-passenger vans, and basic trail tools.
    • Requires ability to exert up to 75 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 25 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
    • Note an equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable.


    Preferred knowledge, skills and abilities:
    • Minimum of two or more years of experience in trail work.
    • Some supervisory and/or crew leader experience.
    • Excellent group management skills and the ability to manage multiple projects at once.
    • Excellent communication and teaching skills.
