    Position Summary

    The Director of New Student Orientation (Director) is responsible for university-wide direction of a comprehensive orientation program that serves approximately 10,000 prospective students and 3,300 guests annually. The Director is responsible for all facets of the program including staff selection, training, and supervision; program development and timelines; budget management; publication development; policy development; website development and maintenance; fundraising; and program evaluation and assessment. The Director collaborates with a variety of university constituents (e.g., academic departments, student services, and facilities) to ensure student needs are met. They work with campus stakeholders regarding implementation of campus and CSU-system orientation initiatives. The Director supervises two professional staff members and student employees. The Director is responsible for curriculum development and teaching the three-unit orientation leader training class (ID 197). This position requires extensive knowledge of university programs and services for students and the ability to maintain and develop effective working relationships with a wide range of administrators, faculty, staff, students, campus programs, and public. This position works in a fast-paced, deadline driven office that has a high level of student and public contact.

    FLSA: Exempt (not eligible for overtime)

    Anticipated Hiring Range: $5,000 per month - $7,500 per month

    CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,135 per month - $12,288 per month

    New Student Orientation at Sacramento State is a comprehensive program designed to ensure a smooth transition for incoming students. It begins with the New Student Orientation, where you'll learn about academic requirements, support services, attend academic advising and register for your courses. Through our First Year Engagement program, our Student Ambassadors will keep you informed about exciting campus happenings you won't want to miss, including New Student and Family Convocation and Hornet Nest Fest events that kick off the fall semester.     Required Qualifications

    Education & Experience
    A minimum of five years of work experience in higher education or equivalent work experience. Experience working in a multi-cultural environment and with college students and families/supporters from diverse backgrounds. Experience in collaborative planning, implementation, and program evaluation. Experience with cost analysis and budget development. Experience in developing strategic plans. Experience in supervising professional staff, support staff, and student assistants.
    Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
    Ability to utilize computer technology to assist in all phases of the work. Demonstrated creativity, initiative, and innovation. Ability to work effectively in a highly active, growth oriented, team environment. Outstanding verbal, written, and interpersonal communications skills. Knowledge of college student development theory. Ability to collect, analyze, and evaluate data for program planning and evaluation. Demonstrated customer service skills requiring high levels of diplomacy and professionalism. Exceptional skills relating to team building, consensus building, program development, marketing, and organization. Experience and proficiency with computer software such as Microsoft Office Suite and PeopleSoft. Commitment to maintaining a welcoming and inclusive work environment with diverse colleagues and constituents including faculty, students, staff, and members of the community.

    Preferred Qualifications
    Master's degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling, or a related field. Knowledge of and experience implementing best practices in enrollment management and student transition related fields. Ability to research and interpret CSU policies. Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships in a higher education setting. Expert-level understanding of Sacramento State academic policies. Ability to analyze and solve complex problems. Proven high levels of self-direction, organization, creativity, innovation, and flexibility.
