    Job Description:

    Emergency Communications

    Supervisor

    Purpose:

    Under general direction, this position supervises the daily operations and activities of personnel in support of the Emergency Communications division.

    Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:

    Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
    • Directs, assigns, and monitors the performance of job tasks by telecommunication operators.
    • Compiles and prepares shift activity reports to track operational activities and personnel.
    • Coordinates the flow of work from one shift to another.
    • Monitors operations of equipment, notifying appropriate personnel of inoperative equipment or other problems.
    • Assists in the resolutions of difficult or complex calls.
    • Operates communications equipment in monitoring and determining the exact nature of each request for service.


    Responsibilities - Supervisor and/or Leadership Exercised:

    Responsible for the full range of supervisory activities including selection, training, evaluation, counseling, and recommendation for dismissal.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
    • Knowledge of supervisory and managerial techniques and principles.
    • Knowledge of emergency communications equipment and its operations.
    • Knowledge of the operations of an emergency telecommunications center.
    • Knowledge of voice operations equipment and its function.
    • Skill in oral and written communications.
    • Skill in handling conflict and uncertain situations.
    • Skill in collecting, analyzing, and interpreting applicable data.
    • Ability to work with frequent interruptions and changes in priorities.
    • Ability to train others.
    • Ability to establish and maintain excellent communication/working relationships with personnel, city, county, and state emergency personnel, and the public


    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent.
    • Three (3) years' experience as a telecommunications operator in Emergency Communications or Call Center Industry.
    • One (1) year of supervisory experience.


    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Advanced (or higher) Telecommunicator certification
    • Completion of Supervisor Academy within 2 years
    • Experience in emergency communications


    Licenses and Certifications Required:

    Must be able to obtain TCOLE Certification within one (1) year of employment, and TCIC/NCIC certification within six (6) months of employment.

    Notes to Candidate:

    Salary Range: $31.39- $39.24

    Location: 5010 Old Manor Rd, Austin, TX 78723

    This position will be reporting to a Civilian Assistant Manager. As a shift supervisor, you will be directly responsible for supervising, developing, and coaching approximately 15 operators and dispatchers but will oversee the staff of the entire shift assigned. Supervisor will be required to work any shift assigned based on business needs. Weekends and holiday shift work required.

    Supervisors are responsible for maintaining 24 hours/7 days a week operations. They will monitor performance, create reports to track shift operations and activity; coordinate the flow of work from one shift to another as well as staffing levels; monitor equipment functionality; notify appropriate departments of equipment/system failures; assist in conflict resolution; and also responsible for coaching, mentoring, and disciplining employees.

    City Government

    The City of Austin is a progressive, full-service municipal organization operating under the Council-Manager form of government. Austin has a 10-1 council system with an at-large Mayor and Council Members that represent ten districts.
