    Please note : The salary range listed in this job description is a base salary. Applicants eligible for years-of-service adjustments or shift differentials may exceed the salary range listed above.

    This position will be located at the Southwest Regional Office, 2040 W. Woodland, Springfield, MO 65807.

    • Conduct training classes for operators to gain certification, recertification, or renewal hours for drinking water treatment, distribution system, and wastewater treatment.
    • Develop training resources and coordinate the selection of courses and materials needed to meet the State training requirements for both drinking water and wastewater.
    • Present multi-level single-day and multi-day training courses both in person and in a virtual setting.
    • Serve as a consultant to other departmental staff, consulting firms, public drinking water and wastewater operators, professional groups, and others on public drinking water and wastewater operations and operational problems.
    • Maintain analytical equipment, reagents, sampling, and laboratory supplies, and develop and coordinate the quality assurance/quality control program for field and laboratory equipment for drinking water and wastewater.


    Have or be able to obtain an “A” certification in Drinking Water Treatment or Wastewater. Obtain certification in the other discipline(s) if needed. If required and if you do not currently possess this certification, you will be given six months to obtain the necessary certification.

    • Problem Solving : Identifies and analyzes problems; weighs relevance and accuracy of information; generates and evaluates alternative solutions; makes recommendations.


    Equivalent to those typically gained by:

    • A Bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences, natural resources, physical sciences, or a closely related field, and 4 or more years of relevant experience .
    • Applicants must possess four years of in-plant actual operating experience in the operation and maintenance of a public drinking water treatment system or wastewater system, including two years of experience in the operation and maintenance of a public drinking water treatment system or wastewater system classified by the Department of Natural Resources as a level “A” or “B” or equivalent.
