    The Position

    Highway Maintenance Supervisors supervise skilled and semi-skilled personnel engaged in restoring roadway surfaces and restoring or constructing slopes, shoulders, culverts, structures, fixtures and landscaping.

    Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.

    This position is responsible for assisting six Supervisor I's from sub-stations: Winnemucca, Battle Mountain, Orovada and Quinn River. This covers over 1227 lane miles in District III. Assist in scheduling projects and routine activities, coordinating equipment needs, monitoring work progress and productivity of four crews. Determine material needs, place orders and make arrangement for delivers to accomplish various betterment projects. Responds to emergency call outs. Work with Supervisor I's and Maintenance Manager to identify up and coming betterment needs, participate in betterment reviews, assist in preparing and submitting budget estimates. Compile a planning chart for the upcoming season. Assist Supervisor I's with personnel issues.     To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of experience supervising, planning and scheduling the work of a highway maintenance crew engaged in a variety of highway maintenance activities; OR two years of experience as a Highway Maintenance Supervisor I in Nevada State service OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Notes In order to meet the needs of specialized disciplines in the highway maintenance field, specific background or skills may be required and will be identified at the time of recruitment. Special Requirements Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, all positions in this series have been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in these positions must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances. In addition, federal law requires random testing for controlled substances during employment. A valid drivers license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. Additional Position Criteria A valid Class A commercial driver's license is required within six months of employment. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level. From majestic mountains to desert valleys, nature has endowed Nevada with diverse and unique ecosystems.
