    The Department of Chicano and Latin American Studies at California State University, Fresno invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Chicanx Studies. Candidates with a demonstrated commitment to applied, community-based, or participatory approaches that address issues of health, well-being, or environmental justice in Latinx communities are preferred.

    The ideal candidate must maintain an active research agenda, demonstrate the ability to be culturally responsive in their teaching and mentorship, develop new courses in their area of expertise, and engage in community-based work. Additionally, they will participate in department, college, and university programs, service, and governance and will have multiple opportunities to contribute to the department’s commitment to inclusivity and social justice.

    Required Education:

    Required Education (from an accredited institution or foreign equivalent.):
    An earned doctorate or equivalent terminal degree in Chicanx Studies, Latinx Studies, Ethnic Studies, a related Social Science, or a closely related field is required. Applicants nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) may be considered. For employment, the doctorate must be completed by 8/1/2026.
    Required Experience:

    The ideal candidate must show:
    • A demonstrated commitment to culturally responsive teaching and mentorship in working with a diverse student population.
    • Primary research interests that examine how systems of power, inequality, or representation shape the experiences, well-being, or collective action of Chicanx and Latinx communities.
    • Evidence of successful teaching experience in lower- and upper-division undergraduate courses within Chicanx and Latinx Studies (e.g., CLAS 3, CLAS 5, CLAS 30, CLAS 141), particularly those that meet General Education Requirement Area 6.
    • A demonstrated ability to connect teaching and scholarly work to community-based or publicly engaged research.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Demonstrated commitment to applied, community-based, or participatory approaches that address issues of health, well-being, or environmental justice in Latinx communities.
    • Evidence of applying critical approaches to research.

    Commensurate with qualifications and experience the anticipated hiring range is $6,221-$6,751 per month $74,662-$78,852 annually for Assistant Professor (12 monthly payments per year). As a member of the 23-campus CSU System, we offer an extremely competitive benefits package.
