    About the Program:

    The Environmental Science and Resource Management (ESRM) Program at CSU Channel Islands is an interdisciplinary, field- and lab-intensive program that integrates natural and social sciences to prepare students for leadership in environmental problem solving. ESRM emphasizes hands-on learning, applied research, and community engagement across diverse ecosystems from coastal and marine environments to watersheds and urban systems. Faculty and students work collaboratively with regional partners to address pressing environmental challenges such as climate resilience, environmental justice, conservation, and sustainable resource use. The program is known for its experiential approach, small class sizes, and commitment to fostering equity, scientific literacy, and civic engagement among its students.

    About the Position:

    The Environmental Science and Resource Management (ESRM) Program at California State University Channel Islands is seeking qualified applicants for its lecturer faculty pool. Positions may become available to teach undergraduate lecture, laboratory, or field courses in environmental science, resource management, geomorphology, hydrology, land use, GIS, remote sensing or related disciplines. Assignments may include introductory or upper-division courses depending on program needs.

    Minimum Degree Requirements:

    Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Earth Science, Geography, Geology, Conservation Biology, Environmental Studies, Data Science or a closely related field.

    Required Qualifications:

    • Demonstrated ability to teach effectively at the college or university level
    • Commitment to student-centered, inclusive pedagogy that supports diverse learners


    • Demonstrated ability to teach within the interdisciplinary framework of environmental science and resource management
    • Applicants should demonstrate the ability to effectively engage with a broad student population and provide mentorship that supports student academic success.


    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Ph.D. in Environmental Science, Geography, Geology, Hydrology, Geology, Earth Science, Data Science, GIScience, or related discipline
    • Experience teaching laboratory or field-based environmental science courses
    • Professional or applied experience in environmental monitoring, climate systems, coastal or watershed management, or GIS applications


    • Demonstrated commitment to community engagement, experiential learning, and equity in higher education


    Responsibilities:

    Lecturer faculty are responsible for preparing course materials, delivering engaging instruction, assessing student learning, and supporting CSUCI’s mission of integrative, experiential, and inclusive education.

    Compensation:

    California State University Lecturer Salary (Academic Year) Schedules (anticipated hiring ranges)
    • Range 2: $5,507-$6,677
    • Range 3: $6,221-$13,224
    • Range 4: $6,825-$14,523
    • Range 5: $8,593-$15,211

    Placement into a range is based on qualifications and experience. Initial assignments are typically at the bottom third of the salary range. The full-time (15 units per semester) monthly base salaries indicated in the schedules above are prorated to the number of units worked and are paid in six monthly payments for each full semester.
