    This position will work up to 20 hours per week, schedule open to negotiation.

    Job Summary:

    This is licensed cosmetology work in a state facility. An employee in this class is responsible for cutting, shampooing, styling, and braiding hair for clients in the facility. The predominant role of this cosmetologist will be braiding, twists, and dreadlocks. Work may include general shop management and ordering of supplies. Work may also include instructing more capable clients in personal hair care. General direction is received from a designated superior, but the employee is expected to maintain a prescribed schedule and provide services with minimal supervision. Cosmetologist provides hair care services to facility clients including shampooing, conditioning, cutting, coloring, styling, providing scalp treatments, applying chemical solutions, and braiding. Provides hair care services to patients of all ethnic origins. Cleans and sanitizes beauty shop and all equipment, following the guidelines of the Missouri Cosmetology Board. Respond to requests from Nursing Services and patients in a timely manner. Independently conducts the daily business of the Beauty Shop.

    Knowledge, skills & abilities

    Knowledge of proper selection and application of hair and scalp care products; as well as potential safety hazards and appropriate precautions involved in hair styling activities. Ability to provide services to clients with mental illness and/or developmental or physical disabilities, and to stand for long periods of time.

    Experience and Education Requirements:

    • Possession of a currently valid license as a cosmetologist as issued by the Missouri State Board of Cosmetology.
    • Experience with ethnic hair care is required
