    Overview

    Utility Technician I's are responsible for the maintenance and operation of the six (6) Wastewater Treatment Plants and the City's lift stations. They are responsible for the maintenance and operation of the wastewater collection lines. Employees must remain in compliance with TCEQ and other applicable laws and regulations while working within the scope of their position.

    Responsibilities

    • Performs preventative maintenance on engines, generators, pumps, settling tanks, filters, chemical feed systems, and other equipment

    • Perform basic to intermediate process control measurements, testing of DO, ph, and Residual Analysis meters, sludge quality, aqueous, and atmospheric sulfide levels, etc

    • Preforms emergency chemical release responses, containment, and evacuation procedures

    • Demonstrates basic knowledge of plant flow and treatment process

    • Performs process lab analysis and records data for residuals

    • Maintains accurate inventory of all treatment chemicals

    • Monitors distribution system pressures remotely

    • Receive chemical deliveries

    • Apply knowledge of TCEQ regulations

    • May be asked to perform other duties as assigned

    Position Type and Typical Hours of Work

    • Non - Exempt - Full-Time

    • Rotating 40-hour work week, must be available to work additional hours as needed; Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement

    • In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • High School Diploma/ GED

    • No prior experience

    Licenses and Certifications

    Required

    • A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire

    Employment Testing

    Employment is contingent on passing any post-offer pre-employment screening as listed below:

    • Criminal Background Check: Yes

    • Motor Vehicle Record Check: Yes

    • Drug Screening: Yes

    • Physical Exam: Yes

    Basis of Rating

    A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.
