Job Summary Mohave County Public Works- Equipment Maintenance/Fleet Services Division is looking to fill an Welder Senior position. We are located at 3715 Sunshine Drive, Kingman, AZ. Our Mission To maintain and repair all County vehicles and equipment to OEM standards or better; to provide safe and reliable transportation to all Mohave County Divisions and personnel that are required to utilize the vehicles and/or equipment.
About us Fleet Services Division is a customer-centered service organization that provides a wide range of services including vehicle maintenance and equipment-related support services to all Mohave County departments. The division provides for all facets of vehicle/equipment diagnostics and repairs while providing a preventative maintenance program to assure dependability, availability, and safety of the fleet. Our warehouse provides parts for repairs to County vehicles/equipment and general use items in other County departments. Fuel dispensing operations at the County Service Center compound is available 24/7 for all County departments including after-hours roadside assistance program for all Mohave County departments .

Welder -> Salary Range 15 Steps 1-8 $23.26 - $28.61/hr.
Welder Senior -> Salary Range 16 Steps 1-8 $24.42 - $30.02 /hr.
- Monday - Friday - 7:00am-3:30pm
- Tools are to be provided and maintained at the employee's cost.
- Must pass drug screen post offer.
- Will be required to obtain a valid Commercial Driver's License, Class B with Tanker endorsement within a six month period of hire date.
- Work may be subject to call-back, on-call status and overtime and irregular schedules including completion of work assignments on weekends and holidays.
Essential Job Functions- Repairs, modifies and fabricates parts and assemblies for heavy duty trucks, trailers, construction equipment, machinery, utility services equipment, recreation facilities and equipment, water and gasoline tanks, metal furniture, stands and fences and performs related general welding work using both gas, arc, heliarc, mig, tig and arc air welding techniques and equipment.
- Lays out, cuts, forms, forges, tempers, welds, grinds and fits iron and steel raw stock to make parts, fixtures, tools, guard rails, bracketry, containers, tanks and special tools and equipment.
- Repairs or fabricates shafts, bulldozer blades, backhoe and front end loader blades and teeth and other heavy equipment parts subject to wear or breakage.
- Utilizes blueprints, diagrams and oral and written instructions to plan, lay out and complete work task.
- Estimates material quantities; selects and requisitions appropriate material to complete work task.
- Reshapes, sharpens, tempers and repairs construction hand tools such as picks, shovels, crow bars, jack hammer bits, chisels and similar tooling.
- Fabricates and repairs special wrenches, lift rods, punches, screw drivers, drift pins, valve extensions and other special equipment.
- Repairs broken or ruptured gasoline tanks, high pressure water and air tanks, water mains and related piping and equipment.
- Repairs and fabricates a variety of steel structures, light poles, fences, gates, bleachers and benches, storage racks and bins, trailer frames and hitches, grating, steel doors and frames and similar structures.
- Brazes or solders copper and brass materials, containers, fitting and tubing.
- Repairs and fabricates parts and assemblies of aluminum and stainless steel.
- Machines various parts and tooling and repairs castings and other malleable materials.
- Assists other welders in performance of welding and fabricating work assignments as required providing guidance and instruction.
- In absence of supervisor, provides functional supervision to associate personnel, determines priority and scheduling of work assignments and makes decisions on appropriate repair and service measures to take and evaluates service and repair work performed by subordinate personnel for adherence to established practices and procedures.
- Commutes to locations requiring servicing and repair assistance and performs fabrication and welding repairs or installs temporary measures.
- Maintains daily work records of work done, material used and time spent.
- Maintains an adequate supply of materials, equipment and tools required to fulfill work assignments.
- Cleans, maintains and services required equipment and tools used during performance of work assignments. Keeps work area clean.
Minimum Qualifications Required Minimum Education, Experience, and Training: Welder: Entry Level experience work including. - High School diploma/GED (General Education Degree).
- Post high school technical training/school in an automotive or related field.
- Some apprentice mechanic and/or automotive shop experience or training.
- OR an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered in meeting the minimum qualifications.
Welder Senior: Five-year experience working including. - High School Diploma/GED
- Five (5) years successful experience in the welding and fabricating area as a Welder or when filled from outside, five (5) years' experience as a Welder or related field involving heavy duty combination welding (gas, arc, heliarc, mig, tig, and arc air) of ferrous and non-ferrous metals and alloys.
- OR an equivalent combination of experience, education and training which provides the desired knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities- Methods, procedures, materials, equipment and tools used in the welding and fabrication of metals and related materials.
- Occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade including proper use and care of tools and equipment.
- Gas, arc, heliarc, mig, tig and arc air welding techniques and materials and the techniques including tempering, handfacing and precision assembly of all grades of iron and steel.
- The techniques of brazing and soldering non-ferrous metals and welding aluminum.
- Characteristics and applications of ferrous and non-ferrous metals and alloys.
- The laying out and precision welding of iron, steel and aluminum materials.
- Tempering and hard facing and fitting iron and steel parts and assemblies.
- Cutting, fitting, brazing and soldering copper and brass materials.
- Safe, effective operation and maintenance of hand and power tools and equipment used in welding and fabrication of metals and related materials.
- Communicating and maintaining professionalism with the public, co-workers, and work contacts.
- Plan and lay out work projects and estimate type and quantities of materials required to complete work assignments in the most economical and practical manner.
- Safely and effectively service, maintain and repair assigned equipment in accordance with standard repair, maintenance, operation, and safety procedures.
- Make welded repairs to heavy equipment in field or shop.
- Fabricate parts, assemblies and structures to precise dimensions and in accordance with blueprints, sketches and oral and written instructions or from a pattern example.
- Weld gasoline and high pressure tanks, water mains and related piping and equipment safely.
- Make welded repairs to cast iron engine blocks, housings and other castings.
- Follow and interpret written and oral instructions.
- Provide instruction, training and direction to subordinate personnel and to prioritize, schedule, assign and evaluate work assignments performed by subordinate personnel.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with associate personnel and personnel of other County departments.
- Fulfill physical requirements of work assignments to include moderate lifting of 20 - 50 pounds, utilizing physical exertion required to perform assignment and performing work assignments with the use of tools and equipment in cramped and contorted positions and performing work assignments in various terrains and in varying weather conditions including exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures.
