Parks Technician I (TEMP)-Turtle Patrol

Overview

The principal purpose of the Turtle Patrol position is to assist with the cleaning of the Gulf Beaches during patrols and while patrolling looking for sea turtles coming onto the beach for nesting purposes. The position will assist with cleaning of the island Parks overseen by the City of Corpus Christi Parks and Recreation, including primary functions of picking up trash, emptying trash cans and cleaning restroom facilities.

Responsibilities

• Service, Clean, and supply restroom facility in the Windward parking lot, including the portable restroom on the beaches

• Replace toiletries, ensure the restrooms are functioning properly, report any issues or problems with bathrooms

• Clean building floors by sweeping, gathering, and emptying trash cans

• Conduct Turtle Patrol by maintaining habitat, eliminating trash, and patrolling the beaches for turtles

• Pick up trash along the Gulf Beach and island park

• Empty trash barrels, ensure handicap ramp is in working condition, remove trash at Packery boat ramp including overlooks and conduct turtle patrol

• Wash and vacuum all maintenance vehicles used to maintain the beaches

• Complete daily logs and records maintenance

Position Type and Typical Hours of Work

• Non-Exempt-Full-Time-Temp-Monday- Friday 8:00am-5:00pm

• Must be available to work additional hours as needed

• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement

• In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED

• No prior experience is required

Licenses and Certifications

• A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hiring

A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview
