Business Operations Intern

Position Description

Tacoma Power is hiring a Business Operations Intern to join Power Shared Services and support the Supervisory Advisory Team (SAT). If you’re someone who loves organizing information, improving how teams collaborate, and building simple systems that make work easier, this internship will be a great fit.

This is a hands-on role with real ownership. You’ll help keep SAT’s tools and workflows running smoothly, strengthen how the team tracks and communicates work, and make improvements that people will actually use.
Key Responsibilities

• Build and improve the SAT SharePoint site by helping design, organize, maintain, and update content so it stays clean, current, and easy to navigate.
• Support SAT’s day-to-day business operations by helping schedule meetings, assisting with note taking, and learning team processes to support symposiums, quarterly workshops, and other SAT priorities.
• Help level-up how the team manages work by supporting process improvements like task delegation, basic process automation, and project management workflows using tools such as SharePoint, Microsoft Teams, and OneNote.

• Your work will directly support a team that helps keep Tacoma Power’s operations organized, connected, and moving forward.
• This position is temporary up to 40 hours per week. The term of this position is expected to coincide with the typical summer break for college students.

Qualifications

Minimum Education*
High School Diploma or GED

Minimum Experience*
1 year of post-high school training

Licensing, Certifications and Other Requirements
Depending on assignment, some positions may require a valid Washington State Driver's License

*Equivalency: 1 year of experience = 1 year of education

Other Employment Information

Direct Deposit: Employees are paid on a bi-weekly schedule by direct deposit.

Salary Increases: Based on satisfactory job performance, the City provides for a regular progression of salary increases for most classifications according to the salary schedule.

Union Affiliation: Many job classifications are covered by union security provisions which require union membership, dues, or payment of equivalent service fees.
